Penas Aladas Clarete
-- Weingut: Peñas Aladas Clarete is a wine that comes from some of the oldest vines of La Aguilera. These are three small plots located in a hillside called 'Peñas Aladas'. It is located at an altitude of between 870 and 890 meters. The area of Peñas Aladas is located in a valley subjected to a current of cold air from the Sierra de la Demanda, this, added to the fact of being surrounded by juniper, pine and holm oak forests, makes the average temperature about three degrees lower than the rest of the village. It is, therefore, one of the coldest places in the Ribera del Duero. The calcareous skeleton of this wine comes from the sands on the surface that gradually intermingle with clays up to a depth of around one metre, where calcareous clays of extraordinary quality predominate. The predominant variety is Tempranillo, around 50 %, but as these are very old vines we find other red and white varieties mixed, such as Albillo Mayor, Bruñal, Garnacha, Bobal, Cariñena... Instead of making these varieties separately, as our grandparents did in the past, we make them together at all times, so as not to lose the essence of the blend made in the vineyards themselves. All these vines are more than 100 years old and have been cultivated ancestrally. Currently, its cultivation is certified as organic, also adapting biodynamic practices to our Castilian climate. Exhaustive selection in the field and on the table; direct pressing; natural racking in concrete tanks in underground caves and alcoholic fermentation in specially selected oak barrels for 12 months, make this wine an evolution of the traditional wines of our land. Subtle, elegant, full in the mouth and very long, it is a wine based on the learning of the claret wines of the past but at the forefront of the claret wines of the present. It is not clarified or filtered, so small sediments can be found, which are completely natural. Organic wine.
