Heiner Lobenberg über:
Tinta Negra dos Villões 2021
/100

Jancis Robinson über: Tinta Negra dos Villões
-- Jancis Robinson: Lightish crimson. Seductive aroma that has a touch of smoky reduction and a very slight leafy note that is held together by the fragrant dark-red fruit. High acidity, crunchy, juicy vibrant fruit, more cranberry than cherry. Bone dry, with paper-fine tannins, and so completely refreshing even though there is notable intensity of lightly peppery fruit at the core, even at such modest alcohol levels. A conundrum to get this much flavour with this level of acidity and alcohol – suggesting the site and the variety are perfectly matched and that the vines are well adapted to their site, and picked at the perfect moment. The oak ageing is a hidden support not an ingredient in the flavour. Lovely smoky/savoury/stony aftertaste. It's the first time I have tasted this wine – it may even be the first vintage – so it is hard to know how it will age but probably longer than I have suggested. 17,5/20

Weingut über: Tinta Negra dos Villões
-- Weingut: The grape Tinta Negra is part of the ancient composition of grapes of this island, Madeira, still being today the base for the wines that make the Madeira Island famous. Rare, it is also found in small quantities in two other regions close to the ocean, it is known as Molar in Colares or Saborinho in the Azores. “Villões” is the nickname that the people of Porto Santo give to Madeirans, which comes from the name village (city) that has gained a double connotation. This is our Tinta Negra dos Villões. The grapes were harvested manually, transported in 20kg boxes and selected at a sorting table. Destemming 70% and whole bunch 30%. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, followed by 40 days of maceration. Aging for 8 months in French oak barrels. Open ruby color. Intense nose, notes of fresh crushed strawberry, some vegetable. Fresh, textured attack, good acidity, the aromas on the nose are repeated. Great persistence.
