Caracol dos Profetas
-- Parker: The white 2023 Caracol dos Profetas Vinho do P. Santo was produced with the rare Caracol grapes from the scarce old vines on the island of Porto Santo in the archipelago of Madeira. Caracol is a local grape from the island, possibly linked to Listrão (Palomino or Listán Blanco in Spain) grown on limestone sandy soils. This was the first time they vinified on the Porto Santo Island, pressing the bunches and fermenting the must in small stainless steel vats, where it matured with lees for ten months. It has a complex nose, reminiscent of a Palomino, not fruit-driven or very intense, more about the soils, with an earthy twist and notes of herbs and spices, and it has a very tasty palate, lively, with moderate ripeness, 11.77% alcohol and a pH of 3.11, denoting freshness. It finishes with a salty twist and a dry finish. 4,987 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024.
