Suckling über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Suckling: Top Chianti Classico with crushed dark cherries, rose petals and hints of cedar on both the nose and palate. Medium-to full-bodied and very structured with lots of tannins. Needs time to soften. Try after 2024. 95/100

Parker über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Parker: The Mazzei 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo shows a soft and nicely textured approach to Sangiovese with plenty of dark fruit ripeness, blackcurrant and wild plum. This balanced vintage tends to show a little more richness and concentration than you normally get with Sangiovese, and the wine spreads evenly and smoothly over the palate as a result. There are no rough edges here, and this classic bottle would pair with a simple steak and fries. 92/100

Decanter über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Decanter: Fonterutoli is located at the convergence of Castellina, Radda and Vagliagli. Since 2017, the Mazzei family produces three separate Gran Selezione to highlight separate communes. Crafted from holdings in Castellina, Castello Fonterutoli exhibits wood-driven aromas of cedar, cinnamon and clove. It's an exuberant mouthful with cherry and plum still wrapped up in oak. The tannins are polished, with graininess adding texture. There's a spike of racy acidity toward the finish which brings in mint and violet notes. 92/100

Fonterutoli
