Lobenberg: Troplong Mondot aus der Feder des legendären Consultant Michel Rolland. Schwarz mit rubinroten Rändern und leichtem Violett-Touch. Die Nase ist tiefdunkel, engmaschig und druckvoll mit Anklängen von Zedernholz und rauchiger Untermalung, dazu Cassis, Feige und Blaubeere. Zigarrenkiste und leicht ätherische Eukalyptus-Noten. Ausbau zu 100% im neuen Holz, das kommt schon etwas durch, ist jetzt nach den Jahren der Reife aber gut integriert. Gute Tiefe und Komplexität auch am Gaumen mit kraftvoll strukturiertem Tanningerüst und reifer Beerenfrucht. Feine Lakritze und Kühle im Nachhall. Ein durchaus schicker 2004er, der jetzt nach fast 20 Jahren an einem guten Reifepunkt angelangt ist. 94/100

-- Jane Anson: Oak dominant, toasted cedar on the opening beats, but it clears and there is charming dark berry fruit behind. Enjoyable texture, structure, architecture, shot through with undergrowth, earth, cigar box, smoke and liquorice. Hard not to be impressed by the power that runs through this, with muscular tannins that benefit from the fresh mint leaf and eucalyptus that comes in to balance things out on the finish. This vintage had the biggest yields for years at Troplong, which almost certainly helped give this some light through the concentration. 100% new oak, Michel Rolland consultant. 93/100

-- Parker: Another terrific effort from charming proprietress Christine Valette, the dense blue/purple-hued 2004 Troplong Mondot displays a striking nose of acacia flowers intermixed with crushed rocks, black currants, cherries, blueberries, and raspberries. This layered, structured, backward, but enormously well-endowed 2004 is a marvelous demonstration of how to produce an elegant as well as substantially flavored wine. It will need 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep until 2020. 92-94/100
