Lobenberg: Quintus gehört zum Imperium von Haut-Brion. Das Château ist 28 Hektar groß und ein Zusammenschluss der Zukäufe Tertre Daugay und L´Arrosée. Der 2019er besteht aus 55 Prozent Merlot und 45 Prozent Cabernet Franc, der Alkoholgehalt liegt bei 15 Volumenprozent. Trotz des hohen Merlot-Anteils ist die Cabernet Franc in der Nase etwas dominanter. Feine Himbeere zeigend. Sehr elegant und fein, trotzdem wuchtig und kräftig von unten. Sehr moderner Saint-Émilion. Der Anteil an neuen Barriques beträgt ein Drittel, der Rest ist gebrauchtes Holz. Feine Schwarzkirsche, neben Mango, kommt in der Nase dazu. Sehr fein, schick. Das Weingut sagt, dass das der beste Quintus in der Geschichte ist. Aber das sagen sie natürlich immer alle. Ich möchte es allerdings bestätigen. Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich diesen Quintus kaufe. Weil er so unglaublich fein ist. Wunderbare Frische, Länge, Salz. Schwarze Kirsche, etwas Cassis und Brombeere, aber nicht fett. Nicht üppig nicht süß, sondern nur fein, mit einer schönen Spannung. Der Wein singt. Das ist jetzt nicht der besonderste aller Saint-Émilions. Er ist sehr archetypisch, aber er läuft im sehr gehobenen Mittelfeld. Im Finale kommt immer wieder schöne Frucht hoch. Schattenmorelle, Zwetschge, feine Säure. Bei diesem Wein passt alles. 95-96+/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The Grand Vin is the 2019 Château Quintus, which is usually Merlot with a solid splash of Cabernet Franc. The finest vintage I've tasted from this address (I, unfortunately, wasn't able to taste the 2018 last year), its dense purple color is followed by a deep, brooding bouquet of black cherries, blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco, crushed stone, and camphor. It takes air to open up, but it has stunning purity of fruit, full-bodied richness, building yet sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's the quintessential 'iron fist in a velvet' glove on the palate, showing more and more minerality with time in the glass, and has that rare mix of power and elegance. Don't miss it. 95-97/100

-- Jane Anson: Quintus gets easier and easier to recommend every year, and this is full of plump, confident and well-balanced fruit, with rich layers of flavour that expand through the palate. Cassis and slate, and the Cabernet Franc plays a large part in adding tension through the mid palate. Harvest 19 September through to 27 September for Merlot, then break until October 7 to 9 for Cabernet Franc. Bottled April 2021. 95/100

-- Decanter: Quite a rich nose. Heady and full with some soft floral aromatics. This is gorgeous, full of life, great freshness and energy but with a deep core of flavour - layered and complex, this gives the mouthwatering juicy acidity you want but also the lovely plush tannins and sensitivity of fruit - power and charm. Tannins are so well integrated supporting the fruit and giving structure with a cooling, liquorice mintiness on the finish. Great impact and presence. Could drink this now and savour the lifted fruit and cooling ending. 55.4% Merlot and 44.6% Cabernet Franc. Drinking window: 2027-2044. 95/100

-- Parker: The 2019 Quintus is a blend of 55.4% Merlot and 44.6% Cabernet Franc, harvested from the 19th of September to the 9th of October. The estimated alcohol degree on the label is 15%. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sails out of the glass with intense scents of plum preserves, blueberry pie and boysenberries with nuances of Chinese five spice, mocha, dried lavender and licorice plus a waft of chargrill. Full-bodied, the decadently fruited palate is jam-packed with layers of blue and black fruit preserves, supported by beautifully plush, ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with an epically long, exotic spice-laced finish. Impactful! 94-96+/100

-- Neal Martin: The 2019 Quintus was picked from 19 September is very intense on the nose with multi-layered blackberry and wild strawberry aromas tinged with vanilla. The aromatics are well delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with densely-packed black fruit laced with graphite and cedar, almost Left Bank in style with a very penetrating yet harmonious and silky smooth finish. This is a very well crafted Saint-Émilion without a hair out of place. 94-96

-- Gerstl: Pirmin Bilger: Unglaublich würzige und tiefgründige Nase mit kühlem schon fast ätherischem Ausdruck. Kirsche, Brombeere und Cassis in Verbindung mit noblen Kräutern und einem Hauch von floralcen Aromen. Dichte Aromatik am Gaumen mit geballter schwarzer und saftiger roter Frucht. Der Quintus wirkt trotz seiner hochreifen delikaten Aromen faszinierend frisch und leichtfüssig. Dabei ist er keineswegs ein Leichtgewicht sondern eher ein Kraftprotz im Balletkleid. Superzart und elegant auch die Tannine welche den Wein sehr zart und fein dahinfliessen lässt. Gute Länge mit würzigem Finale und schönen Röstaromen. Der beste und auch ausgeglichenste Quintus aller Zeiten.19/20
