Lobenberg: 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 52% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. Nur gut 30 hl/ha Erntemenge. Bis zum 14. Oktober geerntet. 13,8% Alkohol. Schwarz mit rubinrotem Rand. Öliger Fluss im Glas, sattes Extrakt und Glyzerin, Polyphenole, Farbmoleküle... Nase nach reifer Zwetschge, intensiv duftiger, roter Kirsche, feines, süßes Cassis, alles vibrierend in der hohen Intensität, erinnert in der burgundischen duftigen Art auch an Barolo Cannubi von Sandrone und Chambertin Grand Cru. Riechen reicht hier im Grunde aus, um 100 Punkte zu erhalten, ein Traumwein. Im Mund Lakritz und Cassis, dunkle Schokolade, sattes Tannin, dicht und sehr poliert, überaus samtig mit einem bitteren Schwänzchen. Kubanischer Tabak, Zedernholz, Brombeer und leicht bittere Blaubeere, frische Minze, etwas Pfirsich. Ingesamt auch im Mund extrem intensiv und dicht, sehr geschmeidige Dichte, vollschlanke Eleganz, belegt alle Sinne und füllt aus, rassige Länge über Minuten. Gute Frische dennoch, der Nachhall kommt auch mit rassiger Cranberry hoch. Für das ganz große Kino, wie auf Chateau Margaux, vielleicht eine Spur zu üppig und fett, zu extrahiert, aber das ist mit diesem Hauch Kalifornien ja der Stil der letzten 10 Jahre auf Palmer. Vielleicht auch noch mehr Potenzial? 97-99+/100

-- Wine Enthusiast: Sumptuous, opulent, with gorgeous ripe fruit, and yet under 14 percent alcohol. The firm tannins are almost smothered by the delicious fruits. It is a great wine that expresses both the natural exuberance of Palmer and the rich fruit and balancing freshness of the vintage. 98-100/100

-- Suckling: This is a departure from the old style of Palmer. It is flamboyant and exciting now. It is not shy any more. The nose jumps out of the glass with blackberries, blueberries, chocolate, and hints of vanilla. Full bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. This is so intense with a spice and blueberry character from the Petit Verdot (7%) and the rest from the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the best young wine I have ever tasted from here. Barrel sample. 98-99/100

-- Parker: The 2010 is a brilliant Chateau Margaux, as one might expect in this vintage. The percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blend hit 90%, the balance Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and only 38% of the crop made it into the Chateau Margaux. Paul Pontallier, the administrator, told me that this wine has even higher levels of tannin than some other extraordinary vintages such as 2005, 2000, 1996, etc. Deep purple, pure and intense, with floral notes, tremendous opulence and palate presence, this is a wine of considerable nobility. With loads of blueberry, black currant and violet-infused fruit and a heady alcohol level above 13.5% (although that looks modest compared to several other first growths, particularly Chateau Latour and Chateau Haut-Brion), its beautifully sweet texture, ripe tannin, abundant depth and profound finish all make for another near-perfect wine that should age effortlessly for 30-40 years. 98/100

Obwohl Chateau Palmer offiziell nur ein 3eme Cru ist, liegt er qualitativ oft weit darüber. Besonders bekannt ist er für sein extrem duftiges Bouquet, das ihn bereits in der Nase unverkennbar macht.
