Le Clos des Truffiers
-- Jeb Dunnuck: As with its sibling, the Porte du Ciel, the 2020 Clos Des Truffiers is all Syrah sourced from one of the oldest vines in the Languedoc, not far from Faugères, and was destemmed and brought up in new barrels. Always more reticent and slightly harder to evaluate in its youth compared to the more exuberant Porte du Ciel, it nevertheless sports a dense ruby/purple hue to go with a gorgeous, more restrained bouquet of red and black berries, currants, chalky mineral, truffle, and cured meats. It shows more violets and peppery notes with time in the glass, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a more elegant, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. The structure here is more apparent, and it has slightly less baby fat, but the balance is spot on, it has remarkable purity, and a distinct sense of minerality. This is another brilliant wine that warrants 4-6 years of bottle age and will have 20-25 years (or more) of ultimate longevity.v96-98+/100
