Lobenberg: Als der brasilianische Fußballstar Ronaldo am Ende seiner Karriere in Spanien die Weinregion Ribera del Duero besuchte und seine Begeisterung für die Weine und die Region entflammte, stand für ihn sofort fest, dass er gerne Teil des Weinmythos der Moros sein wollte. Das Ergebnis ist das Projekt und Weingut Cepa 21. Keine Kosten und Mühen wurden gescheut. Nicht nur alte Weinberge wurden gekauft und neue angepflanzt, es wurde auch zugleich ein neues Weingut im allerhöchsten Weltstandard gebaut, ausgestattet mit allen technischen und physikalischen 'State of the Art'-Errungenschaften, die zur modernen Weinbereitung gehören. Wie gut, dass erfolgreiche Fußballer finanziell so gut ausgestattet sind, der Wein aus uralten Reben spielt auf Anhieb in der Oberliga. Anspringende Nase von Zedernholz, Gewürzen, Cassis und tiefdunklen Beerenfrüchten. Im Mund tolle samtige Struktur, elegante Tannine und ausgewogener Körper gepaart mit feiner Frische. Dann im Abgang wieder köstliche Fruchtaromen, unterlegt von feinsten Holznuancen aus amerikanischer und französischer Eiche. Sehr modern, dabei unerhört charmant und fast berauschend lecker! 93-94/100

-- Winespectator: This aromatic red is graceful on the palate, with cherry, strawberry, licorice and vanilla notes mingling over light tannins, kept lively by bright acidity. Has a tender texture, but shows depth and focus. Drink now through 2021. 92/100

-- Galloni: (aged for a year in new and used French oak barriques): Opaque ruby. Smoke-accented dark berries and mocha on the deeply perfumed nose, with a peppery nuance adding vivacity. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering juicy cherry-vanilla and bitter chocolate flavors and a suggestion of allspice. Closes smoky, smooth and very long, with gentle tannins coming in late to add grip. -- Josh Raynolds 91/100

-- Suckling: Slightly reductive nose of blackberries, cherries and some capsicum undertones. Full and rich with ripe and soft tannins that follow through to a long, salty finish. Warm alcohol notes. Drink now. 91/100

Parker über: Cepa 21

-- Parker: I found the 2011 Cepa 21 very oaky. It is Tempranillo from 15-year-old slope vineyards planted higher up on clay and chalk soils, and aged for one year in French oak barrel. The nose is a mixture of sweet spices, sawdust, smoke, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and ripe black berries, with the oak at the forefront and the fruit in the background. The palate also shows abundant, dusty tannins that coat your tongue with a soft astringency, coupled with lowish acidity. Perhaps the riper vintage -- compared with 2010 -- has taken more of the oak, so I'd give it a little bit of time to come into better balance as it did with time in the glass and plenty of aeration, showing more balsamic hints plus notes of anise seed and fennel. Both this wine and the entry level Hito are now closed with Diam. 200,000 bottles produced. 90/100
