Bourgogne rouge Cuvée des Peupliers
-- John Gilman: Laurent Ponsot’s vineyard sources for his Bourgogne rouge bottling are mostly in the Côte de Beaune, with a small parcel in the village of Chambolle included. This was bottled two weeks before my visit and was really singing still, offering up a very red fruity and sappy nose of cherries, strawberries, woodsmoke, a complex base of soil and a touch of Chambolle mustard seed in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite succulent out of the blocks, with a good core, fine focus and grip and a long, tangy finish. This is really, really good Bourgogne rouge! 90/100
