Lobenberg: Der Castilla kommt aus der bergigen Region Manchuela, im südosten Spaniens. Streng biodynamisch wachsen die Reben der Familie Ponce auf über 700 Metern Höhe. Geringe Erträge. Ton und Kalk Böden. 100% Ganztraube und spontanvergoren. Im Glas dann typisch Bobal. Eine sehr ausdrucksstarke würzige Nase. Holunder, Schlehe und Grafit. Sehr trocken, fast staubig-mineralisch. Ein wenig wild. Waldboden und Feuerstein sind zu riechen. Unheimlich viel Schub. Man merkt deutlich die Ganztrauben! Geniale Rappenwürze und Intensität. Im Mund dann sowas von geschliffen fruchtig. Himbeere, Kirsche, Heidelbeere und Holunder. Das ist trotz der Feinheit und trotz des saftigen Trinkflusses schon auch eine ordentliche Wuchtbrumme. Burgund trifft auf Nordrhône. Eleganz auf Schiefermineralik. Klingt komisch, schmeckt aber so! Toller Stoff mit grandios trinkfreudiger Finesse. Etwas zivilisierter als der wilde, rauhe Lojen, etwas schicker und balancierter, aber gleiche Richtung. Das ist schon einzigartig und in dieser Qualität vermutlich nur aus dem Hause Ponce zu finden.

2023 war sehr warm, aber er ist deutlich kühler und balancierter als der noch heißere und trockenere 2022. Nicht so aufregend und extrem wie 2021, eher eine reife und harmonische Version von 2020. Und so ist 2023 durchaus eine Fortsetzung der so großen Jahrgänge seit 2019. Luis Gutierez, Parkers Mann für Spanien, fasst den Jahrgang 2023 anhand von Alvaro Palacios Weingütern ganz im Westen und ganz im Osten, somit Landesübergreifend so zusammen: 2023 was an even more generous crop than 2022 … the wines have better balance, and it doesn't feel like a warm year at all. In fact, the wines feel more like they come from a cool year. It's a vintage that has a tendency toward reduction, not as much as 2020, but still reductive. But it's an elegant, stony reduction...The quality of the 2023s is stunning. There is a level of precision, cleanliness, symmetry and elegance that, if the end of the élevage and the bottling goes as expected, I must conclude that 2023 might be the finest vintage ... There might be other individual wines that reach higher peaks, but as an overall portfolio, the vintage 2023 represents the strongest collection ever produced.

-- Parker: The 2023 La Casilla fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in those vats and some 600-liter barrels for nine months. It has incredible freshness, 13% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.5 grams of acidity. It's complex and serious, a lot more complex than Clos Lojen, despite the small price difference, and it has notes of berries, herbs and flowers, plenty of aromatic Mediterranean herbs and very good freshness and acidity, fine tannins and very good overall balance, ideal with food. It's serious but easy to drink. It's more Rhône than Burgundy. It was bottled in June 2024 and 15,000 bottles were produced. I tasted a bottle of the 2005, their first vintage, and the wine was fully mature, even if the style was different (it has 14.5% alcohol), more extractive and with more oak.
