Alvaro Castro Branco Reserva
-- Parker: The 2015 Branco Reserva Quinta de Saes is a roughly equal blend of Encruzado, Cerceal and Bical, all unoaked. Sourced from 43-year-old vines at 600 meters high, it has minerality (excuse the generalization) and earthiness, showing more sternness and seriousness than most unoaked whites but not necessarily the same zing and zest. That said, it lingers beautifully and substitutes grip for exuberant fruit. This has fine purity of fruit, though, and it should age well. In Portugal, this is available under ten euros, which makes it a steal there, too. This late release was scheduled to hit the market in September, shortly after this article appears. 90/100
