Lobenberg: Der neue Topwein des Weinguts wurde erstmals 2021 gemacht. Die Reben wurden 2017 gepflanzt und stecken wohl all ihre jugendliche Energie in diesen faszinierenden Wein. Tiefes Rubinrot mit Violett. Die Nase ist beinahe wollüstig dicht, dunkelbeerig und dabei zugleich verlockend erdig und floral. Saftige Schwarzkirsche, Pflaumen und Blaubeeren mit etwas roter Kirsche mit gebrannter Erde, Lakritz. Nach einiger Zeit im Glas entwickeln sich ätherische Aromen duftiger Kräuter, von Minze über Salbei hin zu Nadelhölzern. Dann würziges Saucisson. Im Mund hat der Wein eine fabelhafte, salzige, lineare Spannung. Die Alpine Höhenlage kommt durch frische Cranberry und Hibiskusblüten hervor. Die Tannine sind strukturiert und fein, aber dennoch reif. Im Nachhall mischen sich Veilchen und Lavendel unter die dunkle Frucht. In der kargen Stilistik des Weinguts – die Malbecs verlangen eigentlich nach ein paar Jahren im Keller! – ist der Los Amantes ganz klar der offenherzigste und eleganteste Wein von Altos las Hormigas. Falls sie ihn doch schon früher trinken möchten, dann empfehle ich den Wein zu dekantieren, oder sogar bereits am Vortag zu öffnen. 98/100

This stunning Malbec comes from a one-hectare plot that viticulturis Pedro Parra justifiably describes as a Grand Cru. Scented and alluring, with rose petal and violet top notes, pure raspberry, wild strawberry and pomegranate flavours, layered tannins, very little oak and a finish that lingers like the last note of a great string quartet. -- Suckling: Wow. This is incredible new wine from a single parcel of malbec has strawberry, red berry, orange peel and light mineral character. It goes on and on. It’s medium-bodied with tannins that are perfectly integrated and a long, long finish. Fermented in concrete and aged one year in cask and one and half years in bottle. 400 cases made. Drink or hold. 98/100

-- Decanter: Altos Las Hormigas’ newest wine comes from a small parcel less than a hectare in size. A raw Malbec that offers an authentic expression of Paraje Altamira’s mineral character, it was made in concrete with native yeasts before ageing in 3,500-litre casks for 15 months. The rich aromatic profile features sweet and sour cherry with floral notes and a whiff of gunpowder; while in the mouth it’s vibrant with a chalky, mineral texture. 98/100

-- Parker: The new top-of-the-range 2021 Jardín de Hormigas Los Amantes was produced with organic grapes from plot number 15 in their Jardín Altamira property, 1.2 hectares where there are some 80 centimeters of topsoil rich in silt that gives the balance between meat and bones and then big granite rocks with limestone, the big bones. The big bones require a little more meat, so a little more soil... It fermented with 15% whole clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in untoasted 3,500-liter French oak foudres for 15 months. It has 13.5% alcohol and keeps very good freshness and balance. This felt very different from the Appellation Altamira (which was also from a different vintage), more aromatic, with lots of flowers, with lots of layers and personality, which is impressive for vines planted in 2017. Place before age... It's balanced and expressive, with very fine tannins and a dry finish. The place even before the variety... It's elegant and ethereal with grip from the chalky tannins. It's impressive how noble the variety is and how the young vines can produce a wine with this depth. SUPER ELEGANT. A great debut! 4,300 bottles were filled in May 2022. 98/100
