Lobenberg: Dieser Brunello wird streng zugeteilt, denn es werden gerade mal an die 20.000 Flaschen gemacht, selbst in einem guten Jahr. Tiefes Rubinrot. Die ätherisch berauschende Nase lässt Assoziationen an einen Grand Cru aus Chambolle-Musigny aufkommen. Dunkle Aromen wie Teer, Assamtee und leicht rauchige Aromen gehen über in die beeindruckende Mineralität die an rostiges Eisen oder Blut erinnert. Intensive Aromen in Finesse gekleidet. Ich bin begeistert! Im Mund sind die Tannine seidig rund poliert, puderzuckerfein, mit krachend roter Frucht ausgestattet. Cranberry, Sauerkirsche und rote Pflaumen. Auch getrocknete Rosenblüten, etwas Potpourri und eine salzige Mineralität trifft die Zunge. Nach und nach kommen immer mehr Aromen dazu. Dieser Wein ist so grandios und auch so vielfältig. Feine Vanille und ein Hauch Lorbeer. Wohlgemerkt war der Wein nicht in neuem Holz, sondern das sind Aromen des Terroirs. Das ist schon ein Wein nahe der Perfektion und ein Brunello für Finesse-Trinker, keins der tanninreichen Powerteile. Das ist einer der ultimativ besten, je von mir probierten Brunello di Montalcino! 100/100

-- Colin Hay: First released through La Place in December 2023. This is radiant aromatically and even more impressive than the 2018 that had me in raptures this time last year. It’s also a little more restrained and one has more of the sensation that there is very much more to come beyond the fresh flush of youth that is immediately on display, beautiful though that is. There’s a gracious gentle natural sweetness, like the first warming touches of the sun’s rays after a clear summer’s night. There is also a beautiful combination of floral and herbal aromatics gently enrobing the red cherry, loganberry and strawberry fruit. On the palate this forms an almost perfect and quite ample cylinder in the mouth, slightly pushing at the cheeks and then the most silky ultra-fine-grained tannins arrive, subtly but authoritatively sculpting the contours of the mid-palate but never penetrating the crystalline, glacial tranquillity of the cool centre. The rose petal and saffron notes from the nose return on the finish which is sustained all the way to a very distant vanishing point on the horizon. Very special and utterly fabulous. 99/100

-- Parker: Although this wine was very shy initially, the Poggio di Sotto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino eventually hits all the high notes of Sangiovese. This is a wine of enormous inner tension, showing a punchy, lifted personality with aromas of cherry skin and blackberry. You get brandied cherry, strawberry glazed pie with the gelatin, underbrush, blue flower, forget-me-nots, balsam herb, mint and licorice. A few hours later, the wine had developed into a classic beauty with slender lines, firm structure and a sparkle of brilliant acidity. The oak is integrated to the point of invisibility, the tannins are elegant and fine and the acidity is that proverbial cherry on top. Ultimately, I liked this village bottling more than the 2018 Riserva. 98+/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: I was able to taste the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino three times for this report, and it’s one of the great wines of the vintage. It takes on a bit more muscular style for the Poggio di Sotto estate, but it retains the DNA of the estate at large with its outstanding clarity. It’s medium ruby-colored and reveals notes of pure cherry, anise, wildflowers, wet stone, and tea leaf. Structured and long on the palate, it has ripe, chiseled tannins, a balanced spine of acidity, and notes of salted orange through the finish, with a long-lasting perfume. Its transparency, balanced with its complexity, makes this one of the most intriguing wines, and if stored properly, it will only improve with time in the cellar. Drink 2027-2047. 98+/100

-- Weinwisser: Ach herrje, ist das wieder ein verführerischer, eleganter Duft: Reife Herzkirschen und Himbeeren, einnehmende, aparte florale Noten, die an Veilchen und Lavendel erinnern, dahinter erdige Kräuterwürze mit saftiger Lakritze sowie einem Touch Blutorange. Wow, ist das komplex. Am Gaumen elegante, feinmaschige Art, großer Spannungsbogen aus transparenter präziser Frucht und balsamisch-schmelziger Frische. Gehört wieder zu den Besten. Bravo! 98+/100

-- Falstaff: Leuchtendes Rubingranat. In der Nase satte Kirschfrucht, ein Hauch Rosmarin, dazu feine Anklänge von Graphit und Blutorange. Im Ansatz mit toller Saftigkeit, viel rotbeerige Frucht, dazu schöne Salzigkeit, griffiges Tannin in vielen Schichten, baut sich schön auf, klassisch, wirkt noch sehr jung. 98/100

-- Vinum: Benötigt etwas Belüftung, dann betören Aromen von Waldbeeren, Blüten und Spezereien, im Mund gut abgepolstert vom engmaschigen Tannin und der belebenden Säure, voller Eleganz das Finale. Ein Klassiker. 97-98/100

-- Galloni: Dusty roses, worn leather, dried strawberries and arid earth form a classic bouquet as the dynamic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is feminine yet deep and textural, with ripe plums and black cherries motivated by brisk acidity. Violet inner florals and licorice hints form toward the close. The 2019 leaves a salty mineral staining to mingle with fine-grained tannins and spice, as it finishes with incredible length, yet still so fresh. This is incredibly youthful and inward today, but the potential is off the charts. I expect the 2019 to put on some weight and blossom over the next five to ten years. Glorious. 96/100

-- Suckling: Sweet cherry and flower aromas with some orange peel and lilac character. Medium-bodied with pretty depth and focus. Ripe, fine tannins and an attractive finish.
