Lobenberg: Der Matarocchio entsteht aus einer Selektion der besten Cabernet Franc Fässer im Keller von Guado al Tasso. Nach 18 monatigem Ausbau in französischen Barriques reift er noch ein weiteres Jahr in der Flasche bevor er auf den Markt kommt. Wow! Der Wein explodiert geradezu aus dem Glas! Da ist mega viel Schub dahinter. Saftig reife dunkle Kirschen, Zwetschgen und Himbeergeist, dann orientalische Gewürze, Vanille, schwarzer Pfeffer, dunkler Kakao und eine rauchige Mineralität. Auch im Mund zeigt er seine Energie, gleichzeitig aber auch einen irre beeindruckenden Fokus. Lakritz, frischer Asphalt, dunkle Beeren, Kaffee und frisches Fleisch. Das Tannin ist strukturiert und reif, der Wein hallt lange nach und ist dabei auch noch fast unverschämt saftig. Grandios! 99+/100

-- Galloni: The 2019 Matarocchio is the most elegant and refined edition of pure Cabernet Franc yet. There is plenty of aromatic Franc intensity and tons of depth, but less of the more heavily extracted style that marked the early years. Don’t get me wrong, that approach can work with Franc, as those wines showed, but I find greater delineation, focus and cut here. In 2018 and 2020, this juice was used to improve Guado al Tasso. The 2019 spent 18 months in 100% new oak, all Taransaud barrels. 98/100

-- Parker: This iconic Guado al Tasso wine is now part of the Bolgheri Superiore appellation. The previous vintage was not produced and we now jump forward to the beautiful 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Matarocchio that should hit the market in 2023. This pure expression of Cabernet Franc paints the palate with black fruit, baker's chocolate, pressed rose and fragrant mint. There is plenty of crushed stone and pencil shaving as well. Cabernet Franc is a comfortable protagonist, and the wine delivers power, intensity and depth over an elegant, full-bodied mouthfeel. 97/100
