Heiner Lobenberg über:
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016

97+
/100

Decanter über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

-- Decanter: Sweet red cherries on the nose with cherry pit too against a savoury spice aspect, clove, vanilla and cinnamon. Tannins are mouthcoating and grippy with dark sweet liquorice, tar, burnt caramel, clove and blackcurrants. The whole palate feels quite darkly toned, rich and gently spiced with a cooling minerality underneath and at the end too which keeps it all lifted. Bold, structured and supremely powerful but still with plenty of glamour. It's a confident wine barely flexing its muscles right now - all held in check with lots more to give. Gorgeously sexy and seductive. Still so young. 98/100

Jane Anson über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

-- Jane Anson: This was an exceptional year in Brunello and straight away you are struck by the depth of expression, and the tannic heft and width. Plenty of raspberry, rose petal and red cherry puree along with blackberry, campfire and brioche notes. A classic, signature Brunello with all that you expect from a 2016 in the region. Absolutely one to look out for, moreish, saline-streaked, mouthwatering and walks the line of power and finesse. This is just approaching the sweet spot for drinking but will hold. 30 months in bottle after 30 months in barrel. Slavonian oak casks for ageing. 97/100

Wine Spectator über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

-- Wine Spectator: This stunning red leads off with a beam of cherry, kirsch and violet flavors, while mineral, tobacco and ash lend accents. Fresh and juicy, with fine harmony and an exceptional aftertaste that echoes the fruit and mineral elements. Its solid structure gives this fine aging potential. Best from 2025 through 2043. 97/100

Suckling über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

-- Suckling: There’s a real purity of sangiovese fruit here with cherries, orange peel and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied yet so tight and refined as well as structured. Fine tannins lead you down deep into the palate which opens up at the end. Fascinating. Drink in 2024 and onwards. 96/100

Parker über: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

-- Parker: The Poggio Antico 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva absolutely delivers the goods, especially if you are in the market for a rich and robust expression of Sangiovese with dark fruit, cherry, leather, spice and tar. The finish is smooth and velvety, and although you recognize the structure of the wine, you by no means feel the tannins in any obvious way. However, the alcohol is strong at 15% in this 9,000-bottle release. 96/100
