Heiner Lobenberg über:
Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione 2017

95
/100

Suckling über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Suckling: Lots of ripe fruit with walnuts, tile, dried berries and chocolate powder. Full-bodied, velvety and chewy. This is a very powerful and structured Chianti Classico that will rival many top Brunellos. Needs time to come completely together. Better after 2022. 96/100

Markus Del Monego über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Markus Del Monego: A wonderfully classic wine with dark ruby colour and almost violet hue. Very appealing nose with succulent fruit, ripe plums, black cherries and figs, flowery hints in the background, with some oxygenation showing an elegant toasting aroma as well as mild gingerbread spices. On the palate well structured with mature acidity and well balanced tannins, rich and quite opulent in the aftertaste, displaying flavour of mulberries and dried aromatic herbs in combination with mild spices. A wine with great length. 95/100

Parker über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Parker: The Mazzei 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is Sangiovese with a tiny component of Malvasia Nera. The wine is elegantly streamlined and subtle—in fact, more so than I would have expected from this largely opulent and exuberant vintage. The bouquet is both floral and fruity with wild berry, rose hip, lavender and cassis. These aromas are central to the Sangiovese playlist. This wine delivers on all the fundamental elements, although I feel that we got a little more depth and delineation in the previous, cooler-vintage release. The tannins are silky and elegant. 93/100

Decanter über: Chianti Classico Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione

-- Decanter: From 11 parcels in and around Fonterutoli in the commune of Castellina in Chianti, located at altitudes between 420 and 510 metres above sea level on alberese and limestone soils. It has rich cherry, cream and vanilla scents, while in the mouth plush richness is met by a concentration of red and black berry and cherry fruits and some savoury damp earth and barrel char nuance. The tannins and acidity push and pull in harmony to provide a supportive cradle for the fruit, giving excellent balance and leading to a long, moreish finish. Still very youthful, this needs time to integrate and reach its peak. 93/100
