Lobenberg: Wow, was für eine satte Nase. Süßherbe Kirsche, süße Brombeere, ein Hauch Cassis untermalt von tiefer Würze mit Piment, einem Hauch Zimt, Nelke, schwarzem Pfeffer und ganz dezent auch etwas Bitterschokolade. Am Gaumen voluminös, mit zupackenden aber feinen Tanninen und schöner Frische, die von der rassigen Säurestruktur kommt. Wirklich saftig und erfrischend am Gaumen in Sauerkirsche und nicht süßen Waldbeeren. Durch die grandiose Säurefrische wirkt der Syrah deutlich knackiger, als die süßwürzige Nase es erwarten ließe. Geradezu eine tänzerische Rasse zeigend bis in den langanhaltenden Abgang, in dem die saftige Frucht von Piment und Pfeffer begleitet wird. 95+/100

-- Tim Atkin: Very reasonably priced given the buzz surrounding Syrahs from the Polkadraai Hills right now, this stylish, 30% whole bunch-fermented red uses grapes from three separate sites planted between 1994 and 2010. Showing classic garrigue and fynbos aromas, it has racy acidity, red cherry and pomegranate fruit and notes of oregano and wild thyme. 2024-35 94/100

-- Galloni: The 2021 Syrah includes 30% whole bunches, fermented in stainless steel and concrete tanks. It’s a blend of all the Syrah vineyards on the estate, including the oldest vines. A light extraction wets the cap to bring air into the fermentation. It matured in old oak barrels of various sizes (plus foudres) for 12 months. It has a beguiling bouquet with brambly black fruit, iodine and a discrete touch of wild mint and rosemary. The palate is well-balanced with a classic, 'cool' personality. It builds gently in the mouth with a soupçon of salted licorice towards the finish. You'd be hard-pressed to distinguish this from a Northern Rhône. Wonderful. 94/100
