Heiner Lobenberg über:
Concerto di Fonterutoli 2019

97+
/100

Decanter über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Decanter: Such a fragrant and appealing burst of aromas here with milk chocolate, blackcurrants, dried herbs and flowers. A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, this has a core of cherries and raspberries alongside savoury olive and oak elements with round, just-there tannins that give support to the fresh and lively fruit. Great power, depth and concentration. The wine is aged for 18 months in small French 225l oak barrels, 70% new, before moving to concrete tanks for four months. 96/100

Weinwisser über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Weinwisser: Sehr frisches, dichtes Rubinrot mit noch violetten Reflexen, wenig Rand. Jugendlicher Duft, viel frische Kirschschattierungen, frisches Leder, reife kleine Kirschen, feine Reduktion, ätherische Noten. Saftig-geschliffener Gaumen, viel Kirscharomatik, schwarzer Pfeffer, zupackend, frisch, toll elaboriertes, langes Finale, hallt lange fruchtig nach. Groß. 96/100

Parker über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Parker: Made with mostly Sangiovese supplemented by the structural heft and texture of Cabernet Sauvignon (that makes up roughly 20% of the blend), this is a profound and important red wine from Tuscany. The Mazzei 2019 Concerto di Fonterutoli is your proverbial steak buddy, or all-round meat wine, with abundant black fruit, spice, tannins and acidity to cut through the fat and the gristle. By a hair, I prefer the depth and intensity of the 2019 vintage compared to the 2018 vintage that I tasted at this same sitting. This wine is slightly more etched and angular, making it a good bet for extra bottle aging. 95+/100

Suckling über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Suckling: This is very fine grained, with polished, silky tannins that provide wonderful texture and length to the wine. Plenty of cherry, blackberry, chocolate and mahogany flavors that follow through to the palate. Complex and refined. Drink after 2024, but already very elegant and beautiful. 95/100

Galloni über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Galloni: The 2019 Concerto di Fonterutoli, the estate' 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is quite the powerhouse. Cabernet very much drives the blend in 2019, in its aromas, flavors and overall structure. Dark cherry, herbs, licorice, menthol and spice abound. Whereas the 2020 is already quite open, the 2019 needs a year or two in bottle, if not more, to be at its best. 95/100

Weingut über: Concerto di Fonterutoli

-- Weingut: « Concerto » was produced for the time in 1981 in Fonterutoli, situated in the Chianti Classico region, Italy. This is one of the first ten wines that spawned the legend of the Supertuscans in a decade which marked an historic turnabout in Tuscan winemaking. In the 1980’s, new training systems and new blends, including also non-autochthonous varietals have been experienced by some forerunners winemakers. Concerto, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is a perfect example. The Sangiovese comes from the best vineyards in and around Fonterutoli, where it has been grown for centuries benefiting from extreme conditions due to their altitude (between 360-500 meters above the sea) and their particularly stony soil. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a small south-facing vineyard in the Siepi area situated at 260 meters above the sea level. This particular vineyard was chosen for its unique micro-climate and its soil composed of calcareous rock, limestone and advanced clays. Concerto’s first vintage was an outright experiment resulting in only fifteen barriques. At the first tasting, the combination of the two varietals proved to be so perfectly balanced that they immediately brought to mind a symphony. Concerto was born !
