Lobenberg: Natürlicher Ertrag ohne jegliche grüne Lese unter 20 hl/ha. Biologische Weinbergsarbeit, keinerlei Kunstdünger, kein Umflügen. Im Durchschnitt 70-80 Jahre alte Reben. Schwarz und dicht, glänzend und leicht ölig am Glasrand. Hoher Extraktwert. Satte Schwarzkirsche mit Sauerkirsche und roten und schwarzen Johannisbeeren in der Nase. Maulbeere und würzige Holunderbeere schwingen mit. Feine Röstaromatik und Bourbon-Vanille, kubanische Zigarrenkiste und schwarze Erde, Schokoladensouffle. Immens tief und warm, voll und satt, dann aber kommt rassige, frische, hochintensive Frucht in Mengen. Schlehe, Sauerkirsche, Mango und üppig schwarze Brombeere, etwas Blaubeere in der Jugend. Schoko-Brombeer-Blaubeer-Nase nebst Mango und Grapefruit. Neben der schwarzfruchtigen Üppigkeit deutlich geprägt von Zitrusfrische und gelber Frucht, Maracuja, Mango, extrem feine Frische, sensationelle Balance dadurch. Das Säurespiel in Nase und Mund verleiht dem Wein seine tolle Leichtigkeit. Die ultrasatten und völlig polierten und weichen Tannine sind perfekt integriert. Stilistisch hat sich der Meao dramatisch zur Frische und Feinheit entwickelt, grandios voller Wein mit zugleich ultrazarter Finesse und Frische. Die Eleganz der Granitböden und der Touriga Nacional dominiert heute die Stilistik, gewandelt in 10 Jahren vom fetten Merlot-Pomerol zum intensiven Pinot Noir mit Cabernet Franc. Sattes Gesteinsmehl und Salz im zweinminütigen Nachhall. Unendliche Harmonie hinterlassend, superfein und frisch. Der in der Jugend manchmal etwas zu fett und zu üppig fruchtige Weine kann überragend reifen, nach 10 Jahren erreicht er so langsam seine Weltklasse. Man erinnere sich an den Jahrzehnte immer besser werdenden Weltklassewein Barca Velha, der unter weit schlechteren Bedingungen genau hier entstand. Einen besseren Wein als Meao kann man in Portugal kaum finden. 98-100/100

Parker über: Quinta do Vale Meao Douro Red

-- Parker: The 2019 Tinto is a blend of 60% Touriga Franca, 35% Touriga Nacional and dollops of Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca filling out the blend, all aged for 16 months in 50% new French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. Often seeming sensational for its concentration of fruit flavor, this adds more depth and power than the Meandro, as well as more concentration of fruit flavor. The long, gripping finish slams the fruit into the palate, but this is never particularly astringent nor really what you would call fruity, exactly. It always retains an elegant and graceful demeanor as well. As it airs out, it acquires more mid-palate finesse, too, then caresses the palate with velvet. This will be accessible fairly young, while aging rather well. I'd still give it a year or three in the cellar for better results, but I confess that its fruit is so enticing right now that it is hard to resist even today. This looks brilliant and something likely to do everything well as it ages, but I'd like to see some proof of exceptional development, so let's be a little conservative just now. It should improve over the next few years, at the least. There have been a lot of great Estate Tintos from Vale Meão in the last decade, but this is certainly one that is going to vie for bragging rights. 96+/100
