Heiner Lobenberg om:
Chateau Couvent des Jacobins Grand Cru Classe 2025

94–95+
/100

Fresh and bright, with aromas of sliced oranges, dark berries and cedar that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp and bright finish.

Jeff Leve om: Chateau Couvent des Jacobins Grand Cru Classe

Flowers, crushed stones, licorice, black cherries, plums, and sea salt fill the aromatic profile. The wine is round, lush, and creamy, with layers of sweet, black, and red fruits with intensity, balance, and lift. The wine is made from 100% old vine Merlot planted in 1961. Drink from 2029-2050.

Colin Hay om: Chateau Couvent des Jacobins Grand Cru Classe

(Saint-Émilion; 82% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot; a final yield of 27hl/ha; pH 3.7; 14% ABV; harvested 10-17th September for the Merlot, 19th for the Cabernet Franc and 23rd for the Petit Verdot, the earliest ever; tasted multiple times including at the Association des Grands Crus Classés de Saint-Émilion tasting at Dassault and then again at the property before a vertical tasting with Xavier Jean and Denis Pomarède). Another potential 'best ever' showing from Couvent des Jacobins, a wine that has been on a steep upward ascent for a number of vintages. This is distinctive, with lovely bramble and damson fruit, lots of walnut shell and walnut oil, a little cracked black pepper, that characteristic crasse de fer note from the Merlot planted next to Coutet, and a lovely succulence in the plump and generous mid-palate. Long and juicy on the finish with the tannins gripping and seemingly squeezing additional freshness to cleanse the palate.

Jeb Dunnuck om: Chateau Couvent des Jacobins Grand Cru Classe

A rich, textured Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, the 2025 Couvent Des Jacobins is based on 82% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot that's being raised in 35% new barrels with the balance in one-year-old oak. Its dense, saturated purple hue is followed by a complex nose of ripe black fruits, plums, smoky herbs, and scorched earth. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, balanced, and has more flesh than many in the vintage, with ripe tannins and terrific overall texture. Checking in at 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.7, this is a successful 2025 that should drink nicely with just short-term cellaring. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes.
