Lobenberg: Der Blend aus Touriga Nacional und Alicante Bouschet wurde 12 Monate in französischen Barriques ausgebaut. Tiefes, beinahe undurchsichtiges Violett im Glas. Schon an der Nase ist der Regler voll aufgedreht. Tiefe, intensive, dunkle Waldbeeren mit reifen Pflaumen und saftigen Schwarzkirschen. Vanille, Dill und frisch gehobelte Sägespäne mischen sich darunter – ganz klar vom Holzausbau, der hier intensiv schmeckbar, aber zugleich auch total mit der massiven Frucht verwoben ist. Alles passt. Darüber schwebt duftiger Earl Grey Tea mit Bergamotte. Auch im Mund ist das ein absolutes Powerteil. Aber alles ist am rechten Fleck. Schwarzkirsche, Schwarzkirsche, Schwarzkirsche. Dann Pflaumenmus, saftig reife Brombeeren, Zedernholz und zart rauchige Noten, 100-prozentige Schokolade. Viele fein strukturierte Tannine bringen ordentlich Pepp rein. Ohne kompliziert zu sein, hat dieser Wein ordentlich Punch drauf. Der perfekte Wein fürs Lagerfeuer oder den Kamin. Mit geschmorten Ochsenbäckchen oder einfach so. 95/100

-- Parker: The 2019 Rubrica Autograph is a 61/39 blend of Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional aged for 13 months in new French oak. It comes in at 14.8% alcohol. Better structured than the regular Rubrica, this also expresses the Alicante better, thanks to it dominating this blend. There were just 3,300 bottles produced in this second production of an Autograph. The first was all Alicante, but that will not always be true. This shows off superb mid-palate finesse and precision. It is very tightly wound. This is serious but delicious, with plenty of both pop and flavor on the finish. It is a polished and well-balanced wine. Give it a couple of years. It should age well, so there is no rush. 94/100

-- Weingut: Luis Duarte Vinhos is a family business run by Portuguese winemaker Luis Duarte. It is located in southern Portugal at the Monte do Carrapatelo estate, in the winegrowing sub-region of Reguengos de Monsaraz, which is in the heart of the Alentejo. The estate’s 12 hectares of vineyard enjoy a continental Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers. Its remarkable diurnal temperature range encourages the development of aromas in the grapes. Most of the rainfall takes place during the cold, harsh winters. Limestone soils predominate, which ensures good water retention. This is vital for vines during the scorching summer months. Sustainable farming methods are adapted to each grape variety and vineyard plot. The vines were planted between 2001 and 2002. 2019 gave us a dry winter, with rainfall significantly lower than the average of the last 30 years. During the rest of the year the weather was dry, with mild temperatures during the day and cool nights for the rest of the growing season and up until harvest. These excellent weather conditions allowed a balanced ripening of the grapes until the harvest – at which time the weather remained evenly dry. The grapes were hand-picked during the second week of September and taken to the winery in 15 kg boxes, where they were carefully selected on a sorting table. The selected grapes were then partially destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel lagares (small open fermenters) with controlled temperature (24 – 26 oC). Intense ruby colour. The nose has an austere aromatic profile with great complexity and layers of spicy notes. The palate has a refreshing acidity and firm tannins. Ends with a long, pleasant and elegant finish.
