Riesling Trabener Schimbock "Monopol"
The 2024 Trabener Schimbock monopol, as it is referred to on the front label, was made from this prime lieu-dit in the Würzgarten in the continuation of the Wolfer Goldgrube, from grapes harvested over two consecutive days (the grapes from the first day were macerated for 24 hours), then pressed together with an old basket press. It was fermented and aged for 21 months in Stuckfass down to bone-dry levels of residual sugar. It offers an intense and very attractive nose with plenty of spices, cinnamon, almond, pepper, smoke, rosemary, barbecue herbs, and flint stone. The wine coats the palate as creamy and spicy elements are quite present, and lead to a broader yet refined structure. The finish is imposing, intense, and layered, and leaves a very spicy, salty, but also tart side. The aftertaste is slightly broader, yet remains fresh and lively, thanks to the tickly acidity. This has quite some potential if it gains in finesse with time. 2029-2039+
