Tameran Baboso
The 2022 Baboso Blanco is from a rare and scarce variety (though they have planted a little more) that is unrelated to the Baboso Negro but apparently is the same variety as the one in Portugal known as Samarrinho. It fermented and matured in 500-liter barrels for 10 months with the lees. The wine has contained ripeness, a moderate 11.2% alcohol, a low pH (3.25) and notable acidity (close to seven grams). This is quite complete, austere and serious, not very aromatic, with a medium body that is seamless and balanced. 1,260 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023. 94/100 *** Tamerán is the name of the winery in Gran Canaria from footballer David Silva, who recently retired from the sport. Jonatan García from Suertes del Marqués in Tenerife is in charge of the wines. 2020 was the first vintage, and they finished building the winery in 2021. Silva has six hectares of vines in production and a further 1.5 of new plantings in the village of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In 2022, they bought some grapes from the zone and also from the north of the island, in the higher-altitude village of San Mateo. They harvest early (they are in the south of the island, a warmer zone), and they block malolactic. Production is 16,000 bottles.
