I de seneste 10 år har det helt sikkert været en af de hvidvine fra Pessac Léognan, der har været mest på mode. Men så er prisen desværre steget så voldsomt, at det har taget lidt af charmen. Duftprofilen minder om Fieuzal med sin høje andel af kernefrugt, fersken, abrikos og endda litchi. Fieuzal er den superharmoniske, hvide Bordeaux-version, og Smith Haut Lafitte blanc er den perfekte, hvide Sauvignon Blanc. Mellem dem har man efter min mening brug for en vin som denne Malartic og så højst helt i bunden Clos Floridene som indgangsvinen. Malartic er virkelig fremragende, ofte endda bedre end Fieuzal, men desværre heller ikke helt billig.

Den historiske årgang 2016 udmærker sig i Bordeaux som en genial symbiose af friskhed og kraft. Efter et regnfuldt forår gav en endeløs drømmesommer perfekt modne, strukturerede druer. Resultatet er yderst elegante, langtidsholdbare vine med en kølig, raffineret præcision.

This wine is intense and concentrated, ripe in generous tropical and citrus fruits. There is plenty of lemon as well as grapefruit in the tight, mineral texture. It is likely to age well, and should be best from 2020. 94–96/100

A beautifully fresh array of citrus, green papaya and mango with just the right amount of savory influence. The palate has a very sleek, fresh, elegant and powerful core of flavorsome lemon and grapefruit citrus. Impressive concentration and structure. Long and flavorful, peach and lemon-curd finish. Great balance. Drink or hold. 94/100

The 2016 Château Malartic-Lagravière is another sensational release from this estate. This blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot which is sourced from the estate's gravelly soils with alluvial deposits from millions of years ago. The wine itself begins with pretty aromatics of dark raspberries, cassis and hints of blueberries along with licorice, spices, spring flowers and wet stones all developing in the glass. On the palate this medium-plus bodied red is beautifully structured with lovely ripe fruit and bright acidity keeping it well balanced through the finish. A beautiful wine which should begin to show its best after some short-term cellaring. 94/100

A terrific white that’s up with the top efforts in the vintage, the 2016 Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc comes from a 7-hectare vineyard in the Graves region and is 85% Sauvignon and 15% Sémillon raised in 55% new barrels. It has terrific freshness and purity as well as medium body, a concentrated, layered, texture, perfumed notes of lemon curd, white grapefruits, and flowers, and a distinct sense of minerality. The whites in the vintage have a good mix of purity and richness, and this is a great example. It’s going to benefit from a year or two and drink well for at least a decade. Tasted twice, count me in as a fan. 94/100
