Chateau Lassegue Grand Cru Classe 2025

Typisk, tæt næse for Lassegue.

(Saint-Émilion; 48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon; even on the old vines the yields were between 32 and 35 hl/ha; pH 3.55; 14.3% ABV; no press wine; tasted at Lassègue with Pierre Seilhan). The old vine fruit here is crucial to the identity of this, and it's brilliant. Pierre Seilhan's experience in California was also crucial in what was quite a Californian vintage. Blue-purple in the glass, almost dark at the core and extremely limpid in the late morning sunshine. There's a lovely, deep purple florality to this and it gently enrobes the popping blueberries and black cherries. Generous, ample in frame and rich, deep, dark at the core and profound. This pushes well into the cheeks, with a lovely sense of grip from the limestone tannins. There's lots of wine here and a generous spiciness distributed across the length of the layered palate. Overall, this is rather opulent, but the oak of the past just a memory. A large and very substantial wine that reveals the terroir so well. Brilliant in form and shape, and incredibly succulent and juicy precisely because of the density and compactness of the mid-palate and the ample frame. Joyous – and the best wine produced at Lassègue that I have tasted!

Lisa Perrotti Brown om: Chateau Lassegue Grand Cru Classe

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2025 Lassegue jumps from the glass with powerful notes of juicy blueberries, crushed black plums, and black cherries, leading to hints of peonies, licorice, Sichuan pepper, and cedar. Full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of bright black fruit layers with blue fruit accents, supported by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing backbone, finishing very long and opulent. This is the best vintage of Château Lassegue I have tasted and a testament to more than 20 years of redevelopment done by Pierre Seillan, his son Nicolas, and the team at Jackson Family Wines. The blend is 48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. The alcohol is 14.3% and the pH is 3.55. This is aging in French oak barrels, 60% new.

Jane Anson om: Chateau Lassegue Grand Cru Classe

Beautiful inky colour but with vivid ruby reflections, plenty of depth and intensity, plush damson fruit, espresso, cocoa bean, olive pit, this is very much in the estate signature, and it is a gourmet take on 2025. Right at the end there is a flood of salinity, and saffron, which stretches out and really starts to unfold only after five minutes in the glass. The Cabernet Franc makes its presence felt, 60% new oak. September 17 to 23 for harvest, 3.55pH. Average age of vines here is 65 years old, so deep roots that helped the vines continue to function throughout the season.
