Decanter om:
Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
Château de Vaudieu, owned by Laurent Bréchet, is a reliable source of excellent white Châteauneuf, particularly in a vintage such as 2024. It’s a blend of 40% Roussanne, 30% Grenache Blanc, 21% Picardan and 9% Clairette. Brechet has the appellation’s largest plantings of Picardan, the rarest of its six permitted white grapes. His cuvée classique offers great value for money, and if you like the style, try his thrilling single-vineyard, single-variety cuvées. Matt Walls: This is good. Tight still, but very promising. Very brisk, piercing and precise. Linear, long. Moreish, focused, fresh. Heather Dougherty: Mix of preserved lemon and griddled Mediterranean herbs on the nose, with a slightly antiseptic undertone. Rich yet lively, with a smooth texture. Finishes on white pepper. Alexandre Freguin: Clean, tight, sharp and straightforward. Focused palate, but a bit restrained.
