Remarkable. The fruit expression of Clos Saint Martin 2025 reaches an astonishing level of clarity. Even within its near jam-like intensity, the aromatics remain clean and sharply defined; it is no exaggeration to say the nose alone is enough to captivate. Blueberry, blackberry, mulberry, and bayberry unfold in layers, rich yet never muddled. On the palate, the experience shifts, no longer just an extension of aroma, but a fresh, luminous surge of fruit that spreads with fluidity and transparency, almost melting on contact. What impresses even more is the sense of effortless control: the wine is highly concentrated, yet entirely free of heaviness; the structure is powerful, yet shows no trace of force, everything unfolding naturally. As that vibrant, juice-laden fruit saturates the senses, resistance becomes almost impossible. Once again, this wine shows how Bordeaux can carry the expression of terroir to a level that commands admiration.

(Saint-Émilion; 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon; a final yield of 32 hl/ha; 13.8% ABV; tasted first in Bordeaux and then re-tasted at Bélair Monange). In a vintage like this, one has great expectations for a wine from this address, and it doesn't disappoint. Indeed, there's a purity and succulence to this – and also a modicum less wood influence (notable, above all, on the palate). That lifts this above my already elevated expectations. This is a wine to covet. It has the most divine mouthfeel, somewhere between cashmere and silk and, as that perhaps suggests, is wonderfully lifted and aerial. The delicate hint of florality is delightful, as is the briary dark berry fruit signature. I can sense bramble stains on my fingers, so fresh and vibrant is the fruit.

The 2025 Clos Saint-Martin is a very sexy wine. Silky, plush contours wrap around the palate. Vinification in equal parts barrel and amphora exalts the flavors so beautifully. Dark red-toned fruit, mocha, spice, menthol, licorice caress the palate. Blood orange and a whole range of floral top notes appear later, lifting the effortless finish. Superb.
