100 % Tempranillo. Rioja. Nordøsteksponering, køligt klima. Delvis helklasegæring, men det kommer ret tydeligt til udtryk. Meget silkeagtig og saftig i munden, fin og alligevel på en eller anden måde atypisk Riojam, snarere et strejf af Bierzo. Denne raphed og staldhed giver en uventet, lidt grøn friskhed. Nødder og avocada på sorte kirsebær og slåen, appelsinskal og et strejf af surkirsebær. Vinen har charmen fra Rioja, køligheden fra bjergene og krydringen fra en vin fra nordvest. Meget spændende, spændende og alligevel rammer den det hedonistiske punkt. Rioja +, det er sgu godt.

Den enestående årgang 2022 betragtes i Spanien som en historisk milepæl. På trods af rekordvarme imponerer vinene takket være kølige sommernætter med forbløffende lave pH-værdier, spektakulær syrefreshhed og silkeagtige tanniner – en storslået, perfekt afbalanceret tæthed på højde med den store Bordeaux-årgang.

Suckling om: Tempranillo La Calleja

This has aromas of cherries, juniper and dried flowers, alongside notes of preserved cherries. Medium- to full-bodied, with chalky tannins that lend precision and structure. Fluid and aerial in character, yet long and expressive on the palate. Sourced predominantly from Sajazarra, planted on limestone and sandstone soils, with around two-thirds of the fruit coming from there and the remainder from Cárdenas. Partly destemmed and aged in used barrels and cement. Drink or hold.

Galloni om: Tempranillo La Calleja

The 2022 La Calleja is 97% Tempranillo and 3% Garnacha Blanca from Zarratón, Rioja. Aromas of orange zest, soft herbs, cherry, a touch of incense and lavender open the wine. On the palate, it is deeply chalky, with elevated freshness and a distinctly calcareous feel, remaining compact and vibrant for Tempranillo. Its austere flavor profile is shaped by both ripeness and tension. A distinctly different Rioja expression, it is marked by restraint and mineral drive.

Parker om: Tempranillo La Calleja

The 2022 La Calleja feels like a very serious Tempranillo, matured in a 3,000-liter oak foudre for 30 months with 14.1% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.2 grams of acidity, parameters of ripeness and balancing acidity for a warm and dry year. It shows the varietal profile, lacking the nuance and complexity of the old field blends, but comes through as structured and serious, quite agile and vibrant for the character of the year. 3,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025.
