Heiner Lobenberg über:
Ermitage Le Meal 2019

97–98+
/100

Lobenberg: Ein Wein der 'selection parcelaire', der vielleicht extremsten Form der in der Rhone biodynamisch betriebenen Weinberge. Rotbeeriges Aromenspektrum. 97-98+/100

Suckling über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Suckling: At first very leathery and animal in the nose, then the smoke wafts in and is followed by candied-orange, tobacco-leaf and coffee notes. Very concentrated, but focused and elegant for this appellation. Invigorating freshness at the long, stony finish. So dynamic! From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. 98/100

Parker über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Parker: Chapoutier's 2019 Ermitage le Méal is a standout. Crushed stone and pencil shavings accent blackberry and blueberry aromas, while the full-bodied palate is richly tannic and concentrated, showing plenty of structure to balance the ripe fruit. It almost oozes across the palate, with savory hints of mocha and black olive lingering on the finish. 97+/100

Jeb Dunnuck über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Massive red and black fruits, smoked meats, graphite, asphalt, licorice, and ground pepper notes all soar from the 2019 Ermitage Le Méal, which is 100% Syrah from the more loess soils and full-south facing Méal lieu-dit. This puppy is locked and loaded on the palate, with a huge, rich, mouthfilling style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. 97-99/100

Decanter über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Decanter: There's a gently resinous aspect to the savoury blackberry fruit alongside menthol and blackcurrant bush. A very powerful, muscular year, this has a huge tannic framework, almost impenetrable, with great depth and a very long length. 97/100

Wine Spectator über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Wine Spectator: This covers a broad swath, with waves of warm humus, roasted alder and dark tobacco playing an equal part with the layers of steeped black currant and blackberry fruit. The finish features bay leaf, leather and warm stone accents, with a rumble of tannins buried in the background. A meal in and of itself. Best from 2025 through 2040. 97/100

Galloni über: Ermitage Le Meal

-- Galloni: Opaque violet color. Powerful, mineral-accented cherry, dark berry liqueur, smoked meat and floral scents are complemented by suggestions of five-spice powder, cracked pepper and licorice. Chewy and broad on the palate, offering densely packed blackberry, bitter cherry, candied violet, botanical herb and fruitcake flavors that become sweeter with aeration. A sexy floral note appears on the impressively persistent, mineral-laced finish, which shows fine delineation and youthfully chewy tannins. 97/100
