Dunkles Rubinrot. Vom Allerfeinsten!

Parker über: Vieux Chateau Certan

A very different VCC compared to 2004, since there is a much higher Merlot content (80 percent). This was due to a parcel of Cabernet Franc not coming up to scratch and being declassified into the Second wine. The nose is therefore dominated by Merlot, quite Saint Emilion in character with sweet ripe red berried fruits, minerals and hedgerow. The palate is more silky than usual, very concentrated and becomes more typically Pomerol towards the finish, which expands or 'fans-out', rather than the more linear 2004. Savory aftertaste: great length. Superb. Tasted April 2006.

Suckling über: Vieux Chateau Certan

Dark bramble fruits with dark chocolate and eucalyptus leaf, as well as earthy, slightly leathery and forest-floor tones and a youthful, fruity vein. Full-bodied with dense, velvety tannins and almost chewy acidity that’s lively and long, cleansing the palate and pushing the length. The structure defies time, though it’s more elegant than powerful. Lesser perception of cabernet sauvignon here. Drink or hold.

Deep crimson. Nicely married, mature nose. And the palate is intense and concentrated enough to withstand the marked tannic charge. Really very impressive. A noble wine! And it still has masses to give. Very refreshing finish – cool as a mountain stream. Lovely drinking now and for a long time! Tea-leaf flavours. 13.5%

Jeb Dunnuck über: Vieux Chateau Certan

The 2005 Vieux Château Certan is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was raised all in new oak. It needs air to show at its best and has a ripe yet inward profile in its red and black currants, smoked tobacco, graphite, and spice. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has a tight, focused mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. A beautiful, classic, elegant yet structured Vieux Château Certan, it’s just now at the first part of its prime maturity drink window. It will evolve gracefully over the coming 20-30 years in cold cellars.
