Valle de Uco San Pablo Malbec
-- Parker: The more broad-shouldered, grippy and intense of the two Viña Extremas Malbec bottlings, the 2022 Viña Extremas Malbec San Pablo derives from sandy loam and gravel soils at 1,500 meters in elevation. As with its counterpart, it fermented with 30% whole clusters in foudre before maturing for 16 months. Opening with a lush, floral and gradually unfurling bouquet of black and purple fruits, the palate is a touch more plush and plump than the Los Chacayes bottling, yet it sacrifices none of the verve, focus and energy that defines the Riccitelli wines. The finish is equally bright, tense, deep and grippy, framed by ultra-refined, grainless tannins that intensify with continued aeration. This is an impressively structured and multidimensional expression of contemporary Uco Valley Malbec.
