Riesling Graacher Domprobst Alte Reben
-- Parker: From 80- to 90-year-old vines growing just beyond the village below the Domprobst shield comes Richter's first produced 2020 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Alte Reben. The grapes were macerated overnight and fermented in equal parts in steel and wood. After 10 months of aging on the lees with no sulfur added, this Domprobst was assembled and bottled with 12.5% stated alcohol. Intense and elegant on the finely flinty and still discreet nose that indicates perfectly ripe and finely concentrated fruit aromas, this is a mouth-filling, intense, dense and juicy, pretty generous and fruity yet still finessed and filigreed Domprobst that is more open than the predicate bottlings usually are from MFR, but it finishes with the same salivating salinity. A beautiful wine to have with food even as a youngster, but you will taste more complexity and finesse in a couple of years for sure. There is a certain richness built mostly on super ripe and overripe fruits, which give a more baroque character than you might expect from a Richter Riesling. I'd therefore opt for a longer bottle aging. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 4121 in November 2021. 92/100
