Lobenberg: 95% Monastrell und 5% weiße Blanquilla im gemischten Satz auf fast 1000 Metern Höhe. Ungepropfte Reben. Handlese, ein Teil unentrappt, spontan vergoren. Ausgebaut in 600 Liter Tonneau. Die Nase ist der wirklich erwachsenste Wein in der ganzen Stratum-Serie. Schwarzer Kirschlikör, Cassis, Brombeere, schwarzer Pfeffer, Rauch, Feuerstein. Großer Wein in der dennoch sehr feinen Nase. Ultrafeine Tannine und dennoch Chilischärfe und hoher steinige Intensität. Grandioser Nachhall, blumig und steinig zugleich. Veilchen, Kräuter der Provence und an Chateauneuf erinnernde Frucht. Mourvedre mit der Assoziation an großen Grenache. Superb.

Jahrgangsbericht

2023 war sehr warm, aber er ist deutlich kühler und balancierter als der noch heißere und trockenere 2022. Nicht so aufregend und extrem wie 2021, eher eine reife und harmonische Version von 2020. Und so ist 2023 durchaus eine Fortsetzung der so großen Jahrgänge seit 2019. Luis Gutierez, Parkers Mann für Spanien, fasst den Jahrgang 2023 anhand von Alvaro Palacios Weingütern ganz im Westen und ganz im Osten, somit Landesübergreifend so zusammen: 2023 was an even more generous crop than 2022 … the wines have better balance, and it doesn't feel like a warm year at all. In fact, the wines feel more like they come from a cool year. It's a vintage that has a tendency toward reduction, not as much as 2020, but still reductive. But it's an elegant, stony reduction...The quality of the 2023s is stunning. There is a level of precision, cleanliness, symmetry and elegance that, if the end of the élevage and the bottling goes as expected, I must conclude that 2023 might be the finest vintage ... There might be other individual wines that reach higher peaks, but as an overall portfolio, the vintage 2023 represents the strongest collection ever produced.

-- Parker zu 2022: The 2022 La Calera del Escaramujo is more expressive, aromatic and open, not showy or exuberant, with notes of blood oranges, violets and lavender, with some rugged tannins and a tasty, salty twist in the finish. It's beautifully textured, very chalky, with an ethereal part and very fine but present tannins. They tried to extend the élevage to 20 months in 2022, and in the future, they'd like to give the wines an even longer aging in foudre. It's super elegant and clean, with a very sapid finish. This is their greatest wine and the one that showcases what they want to achieve: elegance and power, complexity and depth from a diversity of soils—even within a single vineyard, where they have three soils. The wine doesn't lack power or ripeness. This is nothing short of phenomenal, a real triumph over the vintage. This is super elegant and harmonious. This vineyard is always harvested in October. There were two 600-liter barrels and a glass demijohn that filled 1,600 bottles.
