This famous site in the Saar Valley has had a huge advantage during the last three warm, dry years: veins of water providing enough water in times of drought. Thus, Pergentsknopp, the small parcel at the top of the hill, has produced three excellent vintages in a row. The 2020 has enough concentration, ripeness and acidity to balance its bone-dry style. It is a beautiful wine with aromas of citrus fruit and herbs, culminating in a salty finish. 97/100

The 2020 Scharzhofberger P Riesling GG (the 'P' stands for 'Pergentsknopp') is deep, refined and fresh on the stony/citric, very mineral and almost ascetic but utterly complex and shining nose. Finely juicy, round and still creamy on the palate, this is a rich but refined and elegant P Riesling with a very long, intense and promising finish. This is not a wine for the next year, but given the intensity, lushness and spectacular length, the 2020 Pergetsknopp will be amazing in 10 years. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021. 96+/100

Spirity in a sense of eau de vie, with great purity, some notes of yellow fruit, but also a fragrant smidgeon resembling pencil shavings aka graphite. The Pergentsknopp manages to combine its rich texture and concentrated extract with a fresh expression of fleshy fruit, healthy acidity and mineral finish which shows plenty of edge without grating. 19/20
