Lagret i 14 måneder på 60 % nye franske egetræsfade og 40 % brugte fade, malolaktisk gæring i fadet. Optimus sætter straks retningen for L’Aventure: En fyldig duft med mørk, hedonistisk frugt. Bærfrugter som blåbær, brombær og syltede hindbær samt syltede blommer indleder smagen, mens mørk chokolade og milde krydderier som sort peber og læder lover en kompleks vinoplevelse. Med silkeagtige tanniner og en mineralsk underliggende struktur fremstår frugten saftig og frisk på ganen. Med en tyktflydende konsistens og fløjlsagtige tanniner forener den kraft, frugt og kompleksitet med en lang eftersmag. En vin med stor balance, der trods sin tilgængelighed vil drage fordel af nogle års flaskelagring.

A gorgeous, sensational effort, the 2023 Optimus is based on 54% Syrah, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 23% Petit Verdot and aged 18 months in 37% new French oak with the balance in once-used wood. Rocking aromatics of darker berries, peppery herbs, graphite, liquid violets, and some classic Paso minerality define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, focused, and beautifully balanced on the palate, with ripe tannins. It's up with the best Optimus to date. If you're an L'Aventure fan, buy this. Drink 2026-2041.

A little known fact: Optimus itself is a simple concatenation of ‘Opus One’ and ‘Dominus’. You can see why in a vintage like this. We have lovely parfumier’s floral essences. Violet and iris. Candlewax and incense. Crystalline is form, glossy in texture, this is quite solar, but in a very measured way. It has lovely poise and charm, impressive concentration but also great delineation and clarity in the midpalate. Truly excellent for what is, in effect, a second wine. Here the Côte Rotie similarities are very evident.

A Syrah-dominant blend with equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, this wine opens with an intensely dark aromatic profile of currants and forest berries. The palate follows with the same brooding dark fruit, framed by chalky tannins that provide structure without obscuring the fruit. Petit Verdot seems to be asserting itself here, adding extra depth and darkness, while a lingering impression of dark fruit remains on the back palate. Brooding and compelling, this wine truly shines alongside food.

Galloni om: L' Aventure Optimus

The 2023 Optimus is bright and vibrant, with a burst of crushed raspberries, sweet sage, nuances of exotic spice and pine shavings. Silken yet spry, it races across the palate with rose-laced red berry fruit and a licorice tinge. Edgy tannins resonate, offset by a residual bump of brisk acidity as the 2023 finishes long yet remarkably fresh. This is deceptively approachable today, yet also built for the cellar.
