En begivenhed! Den bedste Chardonnay i New Zealand? Ved siden af eller endda foran Dog Point, helt sikkert. I hvert fald nummer 1 på Nordøen. Kort liggetid, presning af hele klaser, spontan gæring. Gæret og modnet i fransk træ, minimal batonnage. Rig frugt, fersken, nektarin og mango, meget rig og fyldig og alligevel elegant som en Puligny-Montrachet. Vibrerende smag, allehåndepeber med rig, saftig frugt, nødder igen, mineralsk, salt længde. Stilfuld Chardonnay, smukt stram, fremragende definition.

Suckling om: Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay

Very steely and floral, with brightness and impressive aromas of honeysuckle, lemongrass and just a touch of cream. Medium- to full-bodied with layered and creamy phenolics that give a lovely, almost velvety texture to the wine, and then the end is so crisp and minerally. Driven at the end. Needs time to come together. This will be so complex in three to four years. Best after 2027.

One of New Zealand's most renowned single vineyard wines, this vintage of Mate's doesn't disappoint. Less overtly reductive than the previous vintage, the flinty, struck match notes are certainly present, but they're beautifully balanced by bright, fleshy lemon and stone fruit, the toasty, creamy nuances adding flesh to bones. The palate combines mouthwatering acidity with a slippery texture. There's depth of fruit, drive and length. It's a delicious drop now but will age exceptionally well for well over a decade

Kumeu River and Maté’s Vineyard have long been standard bearers for New Zealand Chardonnay. Even in a lighter vintage this is an impressively layered and harmonious wine, with subtle citrus, yellow peach, hazelnut and clover notes. Creamy and fine-textured, it has great focus and length. While enjoyable now, it would be a shame not to tuck this away for further pleasures to come.

Kumeu er en lille by og også en underregion af Aucklands vindyrkningsregion. Regionen blev oprindeligt bosat af kroatiske immigranter, som ofte kom fra vinbondefamilier. Men først og fremmest betyder maori-ordet Kumeu "god frugt". Med andre ord gode betingelser for en vinregion.
