66 procent Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 procent Merlot, otte procent Cabernet Franc og en procent Petit Verdot. Montrose har nu produceret en række fantastiske årgange siden 2016. Vi er altid på samme niveau eller højere end Cos d'Estournel, vi er på samme niveau som Pichon Lalande. Dette er en ægte forfølger af Premier Crus! 2022 har en ultrafin næse med elegant rød frugt. Hindbær, syngende blomsternoter af violer og rosenblade. Meget fin! Og som jeg allerede har sagt om "Dame de Montrose": Stilen i første- og andenvinen er utrolig ens. I 2022 er den i høj grad præget af finesse og den lyse blomsterduft med rød frugt. Fine røde kirsebær kommer langsomt igennem bag nougat og let lakrids. Utrolig fin og legende. En ægte delikatesse! Strålende friskhed i munden. Wow, mund og øjne trækker sig sammen! Men intet er aggressivt, den er bare utrolig tæt. En silkeagtig sky af tanniner i stor tæthed ... Det hele med så meget hindbær, jordbær, surkirsebær og tranebær. Alt er understøttet af nougat. Ligheden med "Dame de Montrose" er virkelig fascinerende. Her har vi turboladeren! Alle knapper til højre - uendelig finesse og delikatesse ... I modsætning til Cos er dette ikke et fyrværkeri, men simpelthen uendeligt fint, elegant og afbalanceret. For mig er dette dybest set den smukkeste Lafite Rothschild i denne finesse. Den har alt, hvad en ultrafin vin af høj klasse har brug for. Dette kunne være en Pauillac i topklasse med sin stil. Den smelter simpelthen sammen til skønhed. Stor ultrafin Montrose, uden tvivl. 100+/100 *** Château Montrose ligger på et af de bedste steder i appellationen, højt oppe, med en vidunderlig udsigt over Gironde.

2022 vil gå over i historien som en fremragende årgang med hensyn til kvalitet. Og det på trods af, at det var den tørreste sommer i Frankrig, siden man begyndte at registrere den, og det varmeste år i det hele taget siden 1947.

From barrel, I wrote that 2022 Montrose was so compelling that assigning it a bracketed score seemed a mere formality, and so it has proven. Unwinding in the glass with a deep and brooding bouquet of cassis, wild blueberries, violets, pencil shavings and burning embers, it's full-bodied, deep and dense, somehow marrying all the tannic authority that has long been such a signature of Montrose with a suavity and purity that represents the quintessence of contemporary Bordeaux. The broad, palate-staining finish lasts for more than a minute. This is a profound young wine that readers aren't going to want to miss.

The 2022 Château Montrose is a classic blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, all of which was brought up in 60% new oak from a variety of coopers. Another absolutely brilliant wine in the vintage, it offers a saturated purple hue as well as an essence of Montrose-like bouquet of currants, blueberries, damp earth, violets, graphite, and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, incredibly concentrated, and powerful, it nevertheless has a riveting sense of purity, precision, and finesse that's hard to believe. Given its balance and purity of fruit, as well as the quality of the tannins, it's going to offer incredible pleasure with just 4-6 years of bottle age (a decade would be best) yet be just about immortal if well stored. 98-100/100

The 2022 Montrose is insanely beautiful. That much is obvious. When it might be ready to drink is another question. In recent years, Montrose has acquired notable finesse in its tannins, so that is not an issue. But the 2022 is packed with tremendous density and concentration that will need time to soften. Blackberry, graphite, licorice, lavender and chocolate stain the palate in a stunning, riveting wine of the very highest level. I can only hope to be around when the 2022 starts to drink well! Montrose is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Unforgettable.

Powerful, Bold, Black Fruit, Cassis, Violets, Earthy, Full bodied, Refreshing Acidity, Subtle Oak, Velvety Texture, High Tannin, Needs Time. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out with powerful notes of crème de cassis, preserved plums, and garrigue, giving way to nuances of candied violets, Sichuan pepper, and mossy tree bark, plus a touch of iron ore. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves layers, supported by super-firm, super-ripe tannins and bags of freshness, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Epic.

Power, and elegance in balance, and harmony are what you need to know here. This sublime wine pops with its display of blackberries, black currants, black cherries, flowers, and a kitchen full of spices. The level of depth on the palate is almost off the charts, yet, the wine remains light on its feet with a seamless finish that holds your focus for more than 60 seconds! This is one of the great vintages of Montrose, and a contender for wine of the vintage. The wine blends 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2030-2065.

Great depth in the nose, taking you into its core of blackcurrants, pencil shavings, graphite, tar, inkpot and cassis. Full-bodied and very tight, this flexes its polished muscles, showing form and tension. Compacted. From organically grown grapes. 66% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot, 8% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. This needs six to seven years to come around.

A deep heady nose filled with fragrant black fruit, liquorice, tobacco and violets. Sumptuous and seductive, this walks the fine line between presenting the vintage with a heady, charged palate full of sun-kissed fruit and lashings of liquorice spice with pristine cherries and blackcurrants and a vein of salty, crushed stone and iron minerality. Gorgeous acidity keeps the profile lifted and almost airy before the density of the aromatics and flavours comes into play. So well constructed, this has muscles and serious power but within a sleek frame and a delicate chalky touch on the finish.

Château Montrose 2022 is the epoch-defining masterpiece I had envisioned, a wine exuding energy, tension, wildness, and power, while simultaneously maintaining a humble demeanor. It is a flourishing flower of life, nurtured by passion. This tasting experience wholly changes my established memory of rich berries and intense toasting, revealing a captivating floral landscape with a mere swirl of the glass. The intertwined fragrances of violet and rose mingle with the rich aroma of pine nuts and toasted pumpkin seeds, bathing the blessing of nature. The clay layer beneath the gravelly highlands and the delicate extraction grant it unparalleled smoothness, transforming the copious, highly concentrated black fruits into the surging Yarlung Tsangpo River. This is the apex I had longed for, an everlasting monument to Château Montrose. - Alexandre Ma 98-100/100

The 2022 Montrose is composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, aging in 60% new oak. Deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly unfurls to offer a gorgeous perfume of violets, star anise, wilted roses, cumin seed, and garrigue, giving way to a core of blackcurrant pastilles, boysenberry preserves, and kirsch. The full-bodied palate is a firework display of graceful, highly nuanced fruit, featuring mineral, floral, black fruit, and red berry sparks, supported by very firm, super-ripe tannins and incredible freshness, finishing very long, vibrant, and shimmery. The yield was 31 hl/ha and the First Wine represents 50% of the 2022 production. The quality of the press wine was high this year, and 13% was included in the blend. pH 3.78, TPI 85. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown 98-100/100
