You can't get much closer to the sea than the 0.3-hectare parcel in Castrelo that supplies the raw material for this Albariño. Lees stirred in stainless steel, it has classic sea breeze and iodine aromas, a mealy, savoury palate, some toast and wet stone and a long, tapering finish. Part of a stunning range of whites and reds.

Galloni om: Alma de Mar Albarino

The 2024 Albariño Alma de Mar from a vineyard in Castrelo, Salnés, Rías Baixas that is right by the sea. Recently bottled, it is the only wine in the range to receive lees work. Fermented on lees, it opens with notes of anise, pear and white fruit, followed by a touch of custard, pastry, bread crust and rose petal. The palate is unctuous yet delicately fresh, with a smooth texture, creamy midpalate and saline finish. This is appealing, with an interesting flavor profile.

Suckling om: Alma de Mar Albarino

Lime zest, subtle apricots and salt on the nose. The palate is incisive, with stone fruit that balances its austerity. Saline, taut and compelling in the distinctive way these wines often are. Slightly textured. Drink now or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck om: Alma de Mar Albarino

From a single vineyard planted in 1980 by the sea in mostly sandy soils, 2024 Albariño Alma De Mar is one of the only whites made by the producer that rests on its lees, in this case for eight months in neutral barrel. Textured, light-bodied, and bursting in minerality for days, it has a light and ethereal quality and long length, the flavors a marriage of salt, brioche, and lemon. It should continue to develop over the next 7-10 years but is already tasting great.
