Mirabilis Grande Reserva
-- Parker: The 2019 Mirabilis Grande Reserva is a field blend of very old vines (including all sorts of interesting grapes like Tinta da Barca, Bastardo, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Pomar, Mourisco, etc.) with about one-third Tinta Amarela from 45-year-old vines, all aged for 12 months in new French oak. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol. This is the new release (as of April 2021). It comes with a hefty price tag and a more normal, if rather fat, bottle. It happily abandons, as did the 2017, the old-fashioned, squat bottles that were so atmospheric but so hard to store. It is not completely surprising, since it is the youngest of the Tinto trio this report, that this is the most fruit-forward in style, but it is shockingly exuberant in its fruity profile and it's delicious. Mirabilis is often understated but not so much at the moment. The next day it is more beautiful and more refined but still fruity. It is well structured with ripe tannins that don't get in the way too much. I suspect this will round into form and settle down in time. In the meanwhile, it is surprisingly easy to drink today, if you must. It should age well, and it will reward you if you age it a few years, at least. 95/100
