Riesling Geheimrat J
The Geheimrat J 2017 Rheingau Riesling Trocken, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made from 15-50-year-old vines located in different terroirs (at least 16) classified as VDP.Grosse Lage, mainly the Geisenheimer Rothenberg, and was fermented and aged in a mix of large, used oak barrel and stainless-steel tank. Slightly golden but still light in color, it presents a very fine and complex nose with a secondary evolution around fine spices, jasmine, candied grapefruit, cinnamon, raspberry, cassis, plum, and nutmeg. The wine is fresh and fairly light on the palate,,combining lovely spicy and zesty notes with a rounder and creamier side. The finish is sapid, straightforward, and pure. This is an excellent Riesling from the 2017 vintage, with an initial patina but still plenty of freshness.
