Lobenberg: Ein winziger Teil der besten Reserva 2019 reifte 30 Monate im Fass. Der kühne Versuch, einen Hauch Tondonia ins kraftvolle Monasterio zu zaubern – gelungen! 85% Tinta del País, etwas Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot und Malbec. Entrappt und 18 Monate im Holz. Nur Top-Trauben, mickrige 20 hl/ha Ertrag. Zur Power kommt Seide und Finesse, die Faust im Samthandschuh. 2019 war ein ungemein warmes Jahr im Ribera del Duero. Trotz seiner 15 % Vol. ungemein klar. Betörende Veilchen, frischer Kaffee. Dazu gesellt sich opulente Frucht mit Cassis, wilden Brombeeren und etwas Pflaume. Darunter legt sich eine hochfeine und intensive Würze mit hellem Tabak, Zimt und kaltem Rauch. Alles getragen von einer hellen Mineralik der kalkigen Böden. Kraftvoller und vielschichtiger als die kleineren – ein Meisterstück der Balance. Archaisch und doch fein, ein Rioja-Erbe in der Ribera del Duero. Ein großer Wein!

Parker über: Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Especial

-- Parker: The 2019 Reserva Especial is a wine that they don't produce every year (there will be no 2023). The difference with the Reserva is the origin of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which represents a higher percentage here (around 25%), and it spent two years in barrel and three years in bottle; so, it could be a Gran Reserva but they prefer to call it Reserva Especial. It was a concentrated year, very ripe in Ribera, and the ripeness shows in the profile of the fruit. The label states 15% alcohol, and the wine reveals abundant tannins, reflecting the conditions of the year. One of the big differences here is the use of one hectare of head-pruned Cabernet Sauvignon, which limits the volume they can produce of this wine. They usually produce between 4,500 to 5,000 bottles, but in 2019, it was only 3,900 bottles. It was bottled in March 2022.

-- Weingut: Intense ryby red color almost black The nose shows intensity of ripe fruit with notes of black plum with a blackgroung of licorice and honey, with mineral and roasted notes. The mouth is long, concentrated, persistent with mineral touches. The mouth is silky with sensations of black fruit and intense tannins wich denote a long life in the bottle.

-- Tim Atkin: Made in the hot, dry 2019 vintage, this is a serious, intense, well-structured assemblage of Tinto Fino and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon that is always released with five years of barrel and bottle age. Matured in one third French oak, it has plenty of opulence and body, fig jam, mulberry and blackcurrant flavours and firm, muscular tannins. Ripe but well balanced.
