Lobenberg: Ein kleiner Teil der besten Fässer der Reserva 2019 wurde 2,5 Jahre ausgebaut im Fass. Der Versuch einen Hauch Tondonia in den kraftvollsten Teil des Monasterio zu bringen. Gelungen! Zur Power kommt eine enorme Seidigkeit und überragende Finesse, ein Zechwein voller Anmut und Charme, die Faust im Samthandschuh. Groß!

Parker zu 2018 über: Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Especial

-- Parker zu 2018: I had not tasted the 2016, so from the last vintage I tasted, we jumped to the 2018 Reserva Especial, a wine that could qualify as Gran Reserva, as it spent 27 months in barrique and enough time in bottle to do so. 2018 was a very cool year with lots of rain (700 liters), and the wines have a special freshness. This is evolving at a very slow pace. It's serious and austere despite the alcohol on the label (15%). It has a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, up to 25%, and it's noticeable in the wine, the only head-pruned Cabernet they have on the property now, aged 34 years. It has a more Bordeaux-ish profile, more balsamic, with some peppery and spicy notes and very tasty flavors. It has terrific balance on the palate, very elegant tannins, very fine and chalky. It finishes clean, long and with very focused flavors. This could very well be the finest Reserva Especial to date. It matured in 70% new oak and doesn't smell or taste of oak. 4,300 bottles were filled in March 2021.

-- Weingut: Intense ryby red color almost black The nose shows intensity of ripe fruit with notes of black plum with a blackgroung of licorice and honey, with mineral and roasted notes. The mouth is long, concentrated, persistent with mineral touches. The mouth is silky with sensations of black fruit and intense tannins wich denote a long life in the bottle.

-- Penin zu 2018: Dunkles Kirschrot mit granatrotem Saum. In der Nase Früchtekonfit, Noten von Tischlerei, Tabak und süße Gewürze. Im Mund würzig, reife Tannine, lang und geschmeidig.

-- Tim Atkin: Made in the hot, dry 2019 vintage, this is a serious, intense, well-structured assemblage of Tinto Fino and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon that is always released with five years of barrel and bottle age. Matured in one third French oak, it has plenty of opulence and body, fig jam, mulberry and blackcurrant flavours and firm, muscular tannins. Ripe but well balanced.
