Lobenberg: Im Beton und Stahl fermentierte und ausgebaute Cuvee aus 75% uralter Grenache mit Syrah, Bobal und Mazuelo. Intensive, typische Grenache-Nase aber ganz klar aus kühlen Hochlagen, Priorat dachte ich zuerst. Graphit, reife Pflaume, Nüsse, Lakritze, viel Veilchen und Unterholz, Trockenblumen, getrocknete Blaubeerschalen, Orangenzesten, weißer Pfeffer, satte provencalische Kräuter, Thymian, Minze, Eukalyptus. Satte Beerenfrucht nebst intensiver Kirsche im Mund, Walnuss, Thymian, Minze, Eukalyptus, auch pikante Schlehe. Nicht nur unerhört intensiv und hedonistisch, fast muss man den Wein als imposante,. fruchtbetonte Wuchtbrumme im Chateauneruf-diu-Pape-Stil bezeichnen. Und das für so kleines Geld, unerhört und fast unglaublich.

Bordeaux fik utroligt meget regn i foråret 2020. Under den tidlige, men perfekte blomstringsperiode var det tørt i fjorten dage, hvorefter det straks begyndte at regne. Fra midten af juni til midten af august faldt der imidlertid ikke en eneste dråbe regn. Det var en katastrofe for sandjord - vinstokkene led af tørkestress. Med lerjord, som vi har på de bedste steder i Médoc og Pomerol, eller på ren kalksten, som det ofte er tilfældet i Saint-Émilion, var det slet ikke noget problem. Der faldt omkring 80 millimeter regn på den venstre bred i midten af august. Yderligere 15 millimeter i slutningen af august. Derefter var det tørt i hele september. Så stort set perfekte betingelser for fremragende terroir, perfekte betingelser for høj modenhed og rige tanninniveauer med forholdsvis moderat syre.

Tim Atkin über: Manga Del Brujo

-- Tim Atkin: A vibrant and highly drinkable Garnacha with some Syrah, Provechón (Bobal) and Mazuelo. This wine has changed over the years: now without any oak, it is instead all fermented and aged in cement. Grown on a lot of red clay, this has a wonderful ferrous note as well as crushed flowers, blueberry and bright cherry fruit. The Provechón brings a wild and savage character, adding depth and interest. Steely and textured, this is a delicious interpretation of the soil and altitude of the region. 94/100

Suckling über: Manga Del Brujo

-- Suckling: Attractive mix of red and dark berries, dried orange peel, blue flowers, hints of sea shell and white pepper. So juicy and mouth-filling with crunchy acidity. Lots of tension and energy here with a bright, berry-soaked finish. The tannins are structured and meaty. A blend of 75% garnacha with shiraz, provechon and mazuelo. Old vines that are at least 45-years-old. Beautiful now, but can hold, too. 93/100

Parker über: Manga Del Brujo

-- Parker: The 2021 Manga del Brujo is an unoaked red blend produced with 75% old-vine Garnacha, 10% Syrah, 10% Bobal (instead of the Tempranillo used before) and 5% Mazuelo (Cariñena), and they feel that it's more Calatayud that way. It's primary and fruit-driven, their more exported wine, an all-road wine, with concentration, freshness, sous bois and a little of an homage to Châteauneuf with an Aragón twist. It's not a shy red at 14.75% alcohol, but it goes unnoticed. Very tasty. There are around 70,000 bottles in three of four bottlings from a single master blend kept in underground concrete that is very stable. Superb value. 92/100

-- Weingut: Deep purple with ruby red rim. Pronounced aromas of black fruits, cracked pepper, smoke and mountain herbs. Full-bodied with well-balanced tannins, the palate displays dense black fruits and cherries with a long smoky, herbal finish. Mineral and complex. The 2021 is a return to a fresher style. Bright black cherry fruit is backed up with notes of wild mountain thyme, lavender and cracked black pepper. Ripe yet fresh and elegant with a long savoury finish. Manga del Brujo tends towards a more savoury style with chalky tannins due to the inclusion of 10% Provechon and some extended maceration and doble pasta of Garnacha on Syrah skins. This wine is born in the chalk and clay soils on the slopes of Monte Armantes in the Ribota Valley of Calatayud at an altitude of 600-800m above sea level. These are free-draining soils, in an area with significant diurnal temperature changes. Manga del Brujo is an hommage to Mohama Rami (architect to Papa Luna), considered to be one of the most important architects in medieval Aragon, leaving an indelible Mudéjar character on our landscape.
