Heiner Lobenberg über:
Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru 2017

94–95
/100

Lobenberg: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot 2017. 94-95/100

Decanter über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- Decanter: A lovely, classic bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and other black fruits with an attractive floral flourish. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned but also deliciously juicy, sapid, and long. Already ready for drinking enjoyment, it will nonetheless improve further over the next 10 years. 97/100

International Wine Report über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- International Wine Report: The 2017 Château Pichon Baron is a standout and one of the finest wines from the vintage. Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot this stunning Pauillac begins to impress with this striking aromatic profile consisting of dark cherries and currants which are beautifully woven together with fresh spring florals, graphite, tobacco, spices and hints of roasted coffee. This possesses a gorgeous medium-plus body with outstanding overall purity and elegance. Impeccably structured and balanced this goes on to thoroughly impress through the long, firm finish. This is an extremely impressive showing from this challenging vintage and while this will likely need a few years of bottle age before it hits its stride it should also go on to have a long graceful evolution ahead for years to come. 96/100

Parker über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- Parker: The grand vin represents 50% of production this year. A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot, the 2017 Pichon-Longueville Baron is deep garnet-purple in color and simply sings of vibrant blackcurrants, black cherries and rose hip notes with nuances of potpourri, incense, licorice and pencil shavings plus touches of cigar box and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, super intense and possessing stunning poise, it has very firm, fine-grained tannins and a beautifully silken texture, with bags of freshness and a very long, perfumed finish. 95-97/100

Suckling über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- Suckling: The currants, blackberries and spices are very pretty here on the nose. The palate is medium-to full-bodied with round, compact tannins and a fresh, linear finish. Cool and racy. Strong and focused. Drink after 2023. 95/100

Wine Enthusiast über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- Wine Enthusiast: This wine has power and plenty of concentration. Rich fruit bursts out of the glass already, suggesting a wine that will age relatively quickly for this estate. It does have concentration as well as bold fruits that will let the wine mature from 2025. 94-96/100

Jeb Dunnuck über: Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron 2eme Cru

-- Jeb Dunnuck: A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot aged 18 months in 80% new French oak, the 2017 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron sports a vivid purple hue as well as gorgeous notes of creme de cassis and black raspberry fruits interwoven with classic Pauillac lead pencil, crushed rocks, chocolate, and violet notes. Full-bodied and concentrated, yet elegant and seamless, it has remarkable purity, flawless tannins, beautifully integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's going to hit the early stages of prime drinking in 7-8 years and cruise for 20-25 years or more. 96/100
