Steile Sandböden in Südexposition. Beste Voraussetzungen für Eleganz. Reinsortig Tempranillo, 30-35 Jahre alte Reben, sehr geringer Ertrag je Stock. Biologisch bearbeitet. 97-98/100

Suckling über: Rioja CVNE Real de Asua Carromaza

-- Suckling: A full-bodied, ripe and delicious red with firm, lightly chewy tannins. Lots of cherries, dried flowers, coconut and rosemary. Lavender and white roses, too. Firm and very well structured. Tight and fresh at the end. First year with single vineyard on the label. 97/100

Tim Atkin über: Rioja CVNE Real de Asua Carromaza

-- Tim Atkin: María Larrea uses grapes from CVNE's 2.37-hectare Carromaza vineyard at 600 metres in the village of Villalba to make this superb wine. Scented, glossy and polished, with orange zest, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, stylish 60% new French oak, some chalky freshness and layered, fine-grained tannins. 2025-40 97/100

Parker über: Rioja CVNE Real de Asua Carromaza

-- Parker: The modern 2019 Real de Asúa has been produced since 2018 with grapes from a paraje in the village of Villalba called Carromaza (now mentioned on the label) on sandy, south-facing soils that were harvested between the 8th and 9th of October. 2019 was a low-yielding year with loose and small bunches that ripened thoroughly delivering wines that are balanced and have aging potential. It's 14.5% alcohol and has mellow acidity and good freshness and balance. It fermented in small oak vats with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic in new French oak barrels and then matured in new and second use French barriques for 12 months. The wine is very impressive, showy, clean and harmonious, without any noticeable oak, juicy, harmonious, young, fresh and elegant. It has concentration, power and finesse. It has a new label and bottle and a much more modern image but with the essence form the past. The wine has improved a lot, and it has grip and very fine tannins. Very impressive. It has the naked essence of Rioja without the layers and layers of oak, now from a single vineyard where they want freshness and a lush but floral and delicate profile you have to drink effortlessly. Superb. 96/100

Jane Anson über: Rioja CVNE Real de Asua Carromaza

-- Jane Anson: Light and deft extraction, fine tannins that highlight the precision of the scultped raspberry and red cherry fruits. This is fairly savoury compared to many Rioja wines, fragrant with waves of raspberry leaf, rose petal, freshly cut herbs, liqourice bud, leather, clove spices and a mouthwatering finish. From this vintage, Real de Asúa has a new label, wax seal, Carromaza plot clearly stated. No longer seen as an experimental wine, flexing its own identity within the CVNE range, highlighting the potetential of this 2.37ha plot of 30 year old Tempranillo vines sat at a windy 550m altitude in Villalba. Give three to five years to fully soften into its structure. Again 12 rather than 18 months ageing in oak barrels, following on from the 2018, but here back to 100% new oak. 3.65ph. Not yet released. 96/100

Weingut über: Rioja CVNE Real de Asua Carromaza

-- Weingut: Real de Asúa is made using our own grapes from the plot known as Carromaza (2,37 hectares) in the village of Villalba, in Rioja Alta. The higher part of the vineyard has an elevation of 555 metres above sea level, sloping down to 530 metres. The climate here is influenced by the Atlantic; its’ windy, and with the risk of frosts. However, this particular plot is situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, which provide protection. The vines are trellised, to protect them from the wind. Planted on sandy, south facing slopes, annual rainfall is in the region of 500mm. Grapes were hand harvested into 300 kg crates which, after recollection, are then stored in a refrigerated trailer at 10oC until their transfer to the winery, a few kms away. There was a double selection of the grapes, first in the vineyard and later on arrival at the winery. Whole grapes were held at a cold temperature and the following day were very gently crushed and then gravity fed into a small, five year old French oak vat. Wild yeasts were used, with punching down to manage the cap and following the alcoholic fermentation, taking place at 28-29oC, the wine was left to macerate on its skins. The time for draining the vat was determined through tasting. The wine was then racked to new French oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation took place. Subsequently the wine was racked to new and one year French oak old barrels. Harvest at Carromaza took place on October 8th & 9th. The vegetive state of the vineyard was very good in terms of health. Due to temperature fluctuations and light rainfall during the months of May and June, the quantity of grapes was reduced, resulting in small, loose and less compact bunches, but increasing the quality considerably. This is a cherry-colored, brooding wine. The aromatic intensity gives us a wide range of aromas. We can find the fruits from the forest, highlighting blueberries and gooseberries, licorice and aromas from the ageing in french oak barrels, such as clove, smoked or roasted flavors, toffees, etc. Complex, floral, its entrance is smooth with a step marked by a tannin that is perfectly balanced with the unctuousness of the wine. Recommended service temperature 18oC.
