Lobenberg: Den Triolet gibt es bei Mount Mary schon seit 1987. Die Idee ist inspiriert von den großen Weißen aus Graves, Bordeaux. Der Weinberg ist mit 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon und 5% Muscadelle bepflanzt. Jede Sorte wird bei optimaler Reife geerntet und separat vergoren. Der Sauvignon blanc wird erst geerntet, nachdem die grünen, pflanzlichen Aromen verschwunden sind. Der Semillon, wenn die Säure nicht mehr zu hart ist, und die Muscadelle, wenn die Aromenintensität und -ausprägung ihren Höhepunkt erreicht hat. Die gesamte Produktion wird im Fass vergoren, allerdings nur gebrauchtes Holz. Der Ausbau findet für ein knappes Jahr ebenfalls im Holz statt. Auch dieser Wein wird, wie bei Mount Mary üblich, relativ hart gepresst, um seine phenolische Textur zu erhalten. Es wird eine regelmäßige Batonnage durchgeführt, also die Hefe aufgerührt im Fass, um noch mehr Textur und Fülle zu erreichen. Es ist für einen Sauvignon kein fruchtbetonter, sondern eher ein cremiger, reichhaltiger Wein mit zitrischen, floralen und hefigen Aromen. Druckvoll und voluminös am Gaumen, aber dennoch sehr frisch und pikant. Große Länge und hohe Intensität, wird sicher lange halten. Sehr schick. 96/100

-- Suckling: This sits on a reductive edge, so give it some good air. It flexes into a minerally, wet-stony mode and has aromas of pear blossom, sliced apple, grassy elements, sliced cucumber and lemon pith. The palate has a very sleek, contained and linear shape with quite intense green-apple and green-pear flavors. Some grassy notes, too. Concentrated and pinned in tight with vibrant acidity. Best from 2024. 96/100

-- Weingut: The Triolet varieties just seem to thrive in the warmer Yarra vintages. This is a Triolet for the ages that we cannot wait to revisit two decades from now. The 2018 Triolet opens with some customary reduction but quickly dissipates to reveal an extremely aromatic and complex nose. Fresh lime and other citrus notes dominate along with white grapefruit and floral nuances largely contributed by the Muscadelle, which seems to be particularly prominent in this young Triolet. There is a burst of flavour on the palate, again lime with pear, green apple, and lemongrass all play a part in the flavour profile along with a slight hint of oak (no new barrels, just some second fills). The acid is firm and focused along with the phenolics giving the wine great length and drive.
