Lobenberg: Der Weinberg liegt im südlichen Teil der Appellation. Er steht für feine, zartere Syrah. Der Wein wird zu 100 Prozent in neuem Holz vergoren und ausgebaut. Das Holz ist Allier und Troncais aus der eigenen Tonnellerie von Guigal, die jeden Tag drei bis vier neue Fässer herstellen kann. Der Wein verbleibt für 42 Monate in den Fässern. La Turque ist würziger und wilder als der feine La Mouline. Creme de Cassis, Lavendel, Speck und feine exotische Anklänge, die von Lavendelaromen gebündelt werden, ein absolut faszinierendes Geschmacksbild. Im Abgang wieder sehr geschliffene Tannine und ein sehr klares Fruchtspektrum, das von Kirsche bis Johannisbeere reicht. Er hat eine wahnsinnige Würze, China Five Spice, Quatre Épices, frische Zimtblüte und weißen Pfeffer. Im Ansatz sehniger und puristischer als der charmante La Mouline, obwohl sich beide sehr ähneln. La Turque 2021 ist feiner und frischer als der mediterrane und sehr reiche 2020er.

-- Suckling: In spite of the cool 2021 vintage, this complex Cote Rotie has excellent smoke, tar and pepper aromas plus some gingerbread and candied oranges. A very elegant expression of this site that has the concentration we expect, but more restrained power than in hot and dry vintages. Great length, the oak beautifully integrated in the very long, sophisticated finish. From the Cote Brune section of this appellation. Drink or hold.

-- Decanter: This is very much on the perfumed, rose-like side of La Turque, along with characteristic star anise, nutmeg, and cinnamon spice, partly from the oak. It’s relatively light in body and concentration this year, but does have a good sense of freshness. More char and spice on the finish, along with vanilla pod. This year it’s actually quite light in tannins, and they are very fine. No hints of greenness, it’s fine and neat. It will be ready relatively early, and is not a vintage for long ageing. Low alcohol. At the beginning of its long maturation in 100% new oak barriques.

-- Jeb Dunnuck: More concentrated and darker in style, the La Turque reveals blackberries, smoked meats, and graphite, with a meaty, almost La Landonne-like character. A blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier brought up in new French oak for 42 months, it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with terrific mid-palate depth and ripe tannins.
