Lobenberg: Biologische Weinbergsarbeit, Handlese, entrappt, spontan vergoren.

Luis Gutierez, Parkers Mann für Spanien, fasst den Jahrgang 2023 anhand von Alvaro Palacios Weingütern ganz im Westen und ganz im Osten, somit Landesübergreifend so zusammen: 2023 was an even more generous crop than 2022 … the wines have better balance, and it doesn't feel like a warm year at all. In fact, the wines feel more like they come from a cool year. It's a vintage that has a tendency toward reduction, not as much as 2020, but still reductive. But it's an elegant, stony reduction...The quality of the 2023s is stunning. There is a level of precision, cleanliness, symmetry and elegance that, if the end of the élevage and the bottling goes as expected, I must conclude that 2023 might be the finest vintage ... There might be other individual wines that reach higher peaks, but as an overall portfolio, the vintage 2023 represents the strongest collection ever produced.

Parker über: El Seque

-- Parker: The 2023 Pinoso was produced with the grapes from the 38 hectares of Monastrell they have in the village of Pinoso, mostly around the winery, with more clay that produces more fruit-driven wines. It fermented in stainless steel, went through malolactic in barrel and matured in used 500-liter French oak demi-muids for six months, so there's no oak whatsoever. It's ripe, reflecting the dry vintage, and it's grapey, with notes of ripe berry fruit and aromas of Mediterranean aromatic herbs like esparto grass with more finesse. It's medium to full-bodied with fine tannins, approachable and elegant. This wine replaces the regular El Sequé, but they have reduced the quantity greatly. 35,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2024.

Verkostungsnotiz

Weingut über: El Seque

-- Weingut: Alicante is a land of historic wines and rich viticultural heritage. In 1999, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle and Agapito Rico acquired the estate in the El Sequé vineyard site with the aim of restoring the value of Pinoso’s historic vineyards. The great diversity of soils soon led us to explore other distinctive sites such as El Hondónico, El Cofer, and Las Morachuelas. These vineyards are located in the Baetic Mountain Range, a mountainous region that stretches for over 600 km across southeastern Spain, from the Strait of Gibraltar to Cape Nao. This range was formed around 20 million years ago during the Neogene period, as a result of the collision between the Meso-Mediterranean plate and the Iberian Peninsula—creating the rich and varied soils we find today. At 500 meters above sea level, we benefit from a continental climate clearly marked by Mediterranean influence. Here we grow Monastrell, a variety that has been deeply rooted in this region for centuries. Our philosophy is based on staying true to tradition, caring for our natural surroundings through organic and regenerative viticulture, and relying on the strength of our family and team. These values together guide us in crafting wines that move and inspire us. The 2023 vintage is characterized, from a climatological perspective, as a dry year (276 l/m²), with levels below the annual average rainfall. The winter was dry and cold, with temperatures dropping to -4°C. The spring was wet, and the summer saw heat waves with temperature peaks exceeding 40°C in August.Wine sourced from vineyards located in the El Sequé site, in the village of Pinoso. The soils are structured, with a sandy top layer that acts as a natural buffer, and a clay subsoil that serves as a water reservoir for the vines. Fermented in open tanks with a short maceration to enhance the wine’s fresh and delicate character. Aged for one year in 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter foudres.
