Sort frugtagtig næse. Der er en subtil antydning af mentol nedenunder. Ekspressiv og charmerende. Lidt hvid peber kommer også frem. Meget delikat aromatisk i munden. Ekstremt rig på tanniner. De overtager hele munden. Igen er den sorte frugtighed tydelig her. Alt maskeres lidt af tanninerne. Kraftfuld og elegant på samme tid. En meget subtil bitterhed i eftersmagen. Den er formodentlig komplet fra massen af trætanniner, og med en lille indsats er den vidunderligt integreret og smelter sammen med vinen.

Årsrapporten

2025 vil helt sikkert indtage sin plads blandt de bedste Bordeaux-årgange nogensinde – sammen med 2009, 2016 og 2022 – og er samtidig en af de mest afbalancerede og harmoniske årgange overhovedet. OG den er meget tidligt drikkeklar og charmerende. Sådan skal det være!

Exuberant dark fruit. This is structured, with a touch of cedar and polished, fine-grained tannins that are so sophisticated and run the length of the wine. Classy. 78% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot.

(Saint-Julien; 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot; a final yield of 20 hl/ha; 13% ABV; tasted twice, the second time at the UGCB press tasting at the Cité du Vin and also at Château de Sales). Serious and seriously beguiling, this is much less hedonistic and immediately voluptuous than its stablemate Gloria. It's beautifully made, with the most delicate and fine-grained of tannins contributing to a brilliantly precise, focussed and luminous mid-palate that exudes crystalline clarity. It's not massively expressive aromatically at this early stage but that's not a problem in any sense. What it does have is beautifully elegant dark berry fruit and a lovely touch of walnut shell.

In the glass, the 2019 Castello Di Bolgheri is a saturated red/purple hue and is lush with wild resinous herbs, saddle leather, black plum, and menthol, as well as a touch of rusticity, though it’s well-integrated. Aging was similar to the 2015 but a bit shorter, incorporating some large casks. It’s full-bodied but not oaky at all, as is true across the estate's wines. The palate is wonderfully structured and built to last, with great energy and balance without sacrificing concentration. Drink over the coming 20 or so years.

The 2025 Saint-Pierre (Saint-Julien) is superb. Crème de cassis, graphite, licorice, cloves, lavender and inky dark fruit saturate the palate. Cabernet Sauvignon speaks with striking intensity from start to finish. This full-bodied, explosive Saint-Julien delivers the goods, big time. Tasted two times.

Even at a low yield of just 20 hl/ha, and despite a wine that appears almost impossibly dense, Château Saint-Pierre still preserves its dignity in the 2025 vintage. Biodynamic farming, along with more precise harvesting and extraction, lends it a sense of clarity and vitality. Intense aromas of blackcurrant, black plum, and dried black goji transform into vivid, flowing juice the moment they touch the palate, spreading layer upon layer like a rising tide. Most evocative is the graphite note on the finish, pressed as thin as gold leaf, gliding across the tongue and gently extending the finish into the distance.
