Strawberry, raspberry, plum and rose petals; very much all about the vibrant fruits. Soft, gentle, not very tannic at all, just tender and juicy. The sweet fruit is supported by some raspberryish acidity. Subtle, powdery tannins into the finish. Not a typical Châteauneuf – it's relatively soft, approachable and plump. But very charming; the alcohol is high, but this is nonetheless lovely. No need to wait. A big wine of great drinkability. Sandy soils.

Rich, full-bodied and creamy-textured while simultaneously appearing almost weightless, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Saintes Vierges looks even better than last year. Cola, spice and stone fruit notes provide plenty of flavor interest, lingering on the long, lush finish. 96-98/100
